View Full Version : What does my daydreams say about me, ADDer wonders.
I feel bad for saying this but I day dream alot and my daydreams I am on the road or just basically on my own and something happened to both my family members and I no longer had any ties that bind me...I try to put them in there but in my fantasy world I dont know why I cant put them there or if they are ..they are but a distant memory and I miss them, sometimes..I feel like a bad person, but then I feel those fantasies must signify something but in the real world family is still important.I mean I do love mom and sister both and I am lucky my mom is so wonderful...so why am I daydreaming that they not in my life anymore..Maybe cause I feel like a caged bird...and even somewhat afraid to leave the nest but still want that other world that is out there.
allegro 02-09-05, 12:07 AM Sometimes, we desire to be unattached to anything not because we do not love what we have, but because what we have expects us to be a certain way. This may be freedom from the expectations of others that you dream about.
Do not feel guilty about these feelings. Wouldn't be wonderful to be able to do anything we want without answering to anyone? Wouldn't it be wonderful to not have to consider someone else's feelings? Wouldn't it be oh so lonely, though? Love your family and keep them close...just take a break once in a while.
Just a thought...hope it helps!
Yeah funny...in my dreams I am always putting others there ppl i conjure up or fantasize about meeting *ahem josh groban hehe* so I am not totally alone in them but with or without them..I am still me and can survive w/o anyone. Which its not the case here right now...But at least I am always workin on it
There is always something happening..an adventure of some kind or a romance...DAMN I love my own world...that is my break from my family even though they do mean a lot to me...cause I know the only way I will have that other world in like I tell most guys..."In your dreams, sucka!
Thanks, hun :)
Ah, DAYDREAMS, she says with a wistful sigh. Most of my life was spent pulling myself out of the stories running in my head, wondering what I had missed in real time. I don't daydream anymore, Ritalin took them away and the trade-off is worth it. I recognize the sudden, snap to attention in kids I work with and don't need to see a diagnosis or file to know what they are struggling with. I don't accuse them of not paying attention, I just kindly redirect them.
it weird the dreams only come to me when i listen to music....the music kinda wisk me away, for some reason I like them and dont wanna stop in a way...If my dreams cant come true right now in this world they can there...and sometimes these visions I have actually happen in my life...not exactly what i dream but pretty damn close..like de ja vue....If I ever do get to that point where i am on my own finally,...i just hope it does not happen how seen it.
One of the gifts of our brain wiring. A psychologist once told me he did not recommend medication to creative ADD or schizophrenic patients - didn't want to stop the flow. I understand, but I am such a dreamer that something has to put on the breaks if I want to make a living. Fortunately, my job with kids involves the use of fantasy on a daily basis and I've had lots of practice.
Some Classical and Jazz / Blues music sends to me the "zone" in major hyper-focus mode. The Great Escape.
'Night, Mel. Sweet dreams.

allegro 02-09-05, 01:06 AM Depending on what med cocktail I am on, I lose or get back the ability to day dream. When I lose that ability, I try really hard to do it anyway. I think day dreams are very healthy. I especially think they are healthy if they are somewhat guided...completion of a goal or something similar.
It may sound a little out there, but I believe we send out vibrations in relation to our emotions. Usually my daydreams give me pleasure, so I am sending out a good vibration, which in turn, draws good to me. These dreams enable me to feel more positive and less overwhelmed. Indeed, many of them come to pass. I do not think I am psychic...lol...I just believe that we get what we focus on. When I feel like there is never enough money, I guide my day dreams to experience what it feels like to not have to worry about money. Because this lessens my stress level for this area of my life, I am no longer sending out negative energy and am not drawing it to myself either. It strengthens my confidence and gives me courage.
DREAM ON!
I can't prove that any of this is scientifically true. Although, I have read some pretty convincing material on it. I have simply felt this way since I was a small child. Don't know where it came from, but it is still working for me after all these years.
free2bme 02-09-05, 01:07 AM Melly,
I once wrote an article about children with terminal diseases and the things they were able to do in their dreams...ie, laugh without pain, go to school, run and play without suffering the confinement of wheelchair or the weakness of illness....
Towards the end, I said this,
Dreams are illustrations from the book your soul is writing about you.....
Your soul is writing a beautiful book about you, Mel. That you are unencumbered and in the company of one Josh Groban is nothing to worry or feel bad about (of course personally, I can't figure out any female whose dreams consist of any musician other than Don Henley, but that's beside the point.) You are happy. Like the kids I wrote about, many of whom never lived to experience the freedom that accompanies happiness without limitation and fear in conscious moments....you are merely escaping the pain and grief that exists in reality. It's a normal coping mechanism. I hope for you that at some point, you can combine the freedom and happiness of your dreams with the living, breathing, aware moments of consciousness.
Should you ever have children, though, get ready to start dreaming again.......there are times when the level of responsibility is so overwhelming the only way I seem able to deal is by having an incredible dream in which I am banging away on my piano while THE DON is banging away on his drums, singing together every song he ever so brilliantly wrote......but then the alarm goes off and I have to get up and make breakfast. Oh well. Could be a lot worse!!!!

That is exactly it, allegro..dont need science sometimes when so many others go through same thing...that is proof.

free2bme 02-09-05, 01:45 AM Note to Melly.....
Older men are the sexiest things on the planet. Less into the whole "let me impress you with my fabricated BS." Josh is easy on the eyes, no doubt. And truly, I'm not as versed in his music as you.....HOWEVER, a man who can stand up on a stage and sing self-written songs concerning social justice, plain ole rock and roll, environmentalism, and the peaks and valleys that come with living life.....leaving no doubt that he's actually experienced these situations..is nothing less than stunning and humbling. On top of that, The Don is the only man who has made me want to melt into a puddle at the sight of a blue and black flannel shirt. HOLY COW.
I'll be seeing him on the 15th of next month with The Eagles. Again. I am so ready to be blown right out of the coliseum. Watch for flying objects......That would likely be me. Amazing..........
LMAO!!!!!! Ack Josh is younger than me wich makes me wanna register for AARP  LOL I be looking for the peices on the 15th :p
waywardclam 02-09-05, 02:09 AM Melly, I know exactly how you feel.
