I've heard this complaint before - the initial starting dose is effective at first but then wanes. Doctors will start you off on a very low doseage to see how you respond to the drug, and then move you up if need be - 5mg is not a lot of Adderall, but it's enough for some people. There is no golden rule for dosage -it's hit and miss. One person might take 10mg a day and another might take 100mg a day to treat the same symptoms and since more is not always better, doctors will start low and work up to the optimum dose. I would guess that you need a more than 5mg if it seems to have stopped working, or doesn't last long enough. It does take some time to figure out what works best with regards to medication, so patience is recommended. Doctors tend to go slow when prescribing stimulants - a prudent but frustrating practice - but with a little time and luck, you'll find the right medication and dosage for you.
