Ever since I started taking Adderall XR, I'm noticing that my anxiousness and stress build up massive tension in my shoulders and upper back. Even a professional massage cannot aleviate the tension in those areas. I'm curious if anyone else has this issue and what they do to relieve it. Thanks.
Yes, I would experience the same sort of thing while on Adderall or Dexedrine. Of course, it was always a problem, but more so while on stimulant medication...
I guess I just had to learn how to calm myself down throughout the day, and stretch a lot, and relax every once in a while (both my mind and my muscles). For example, I almost always take 1 or 2 naps a day now. Whether I'm at school or at home, wherever. And by nap, I don't necessarily mean I fall asleep, but I close my eyes, put my head on a desk or sweater or something, and for about 20 min or so, just chill. And usually I'll block out all sounds using some headphones with calming music, or earplugs. It's kind of like a meditation type thing, but there's nothing else really to it.
I also try to do some yoga or other exercise/stretching a few times a weak. And I try to stretch any time I'm sitting for long periods and I start to get stiff. I used to get really bad headaches from neck/shoulder tension. But I guess they don't bother me so much any more. I think a good way to deal with any type of tension is to not just ignore it, but instead listen to your body and try relieving it before it builds up and gets worse. I know, it's easier said than done...
By the way, I just started using Concerta, and I don't notice the stress/anxious feeling so much as I did with Adderall or Dexedrine.
