View Full Version : Just started dexedrine - What's your dosage?
matt99r6 02-15-05, 06:20 AM It rocks!
I have tried both Ritalin and Concerta which left me in horrible moods and made me depressed.
Dexedrine is so smooth for me. I'm on 5mg pills, 3x a day. It really helps.
What dosage are most of you on? I'm curious as to what range of dosage I'm in.
Gregster 02-15-05, 02:50 PM Dosage varies greatly by person, weight, etc. Typically doctors will start you on a low dose and see how that works. 5mg is the usuall starting point. It's great that you are finding relief from your symptoms at that level, as it is much easier for the doctor to rationalize with regards to risk, etc than a larger dose would be. Some doctors will flat out refuse to increase dosage beyond some arbitrary point based on their own comfort level, and it's great when you don't have to worry about this!
I personally take 15mg tid.
Smooth was my comparison exactly when compared to my experience with Ritalin. Glad you found it is working.
I'm not taking anything just now, but was taking Dex for a year until recently.
Cheers! Ian
KnittingJunkie 02-15-05, 07:23 PM My insurance has it set up to where any generic in any dose in any quantity is 5 dollars, across the board. That means that if I get a script for 30 Klonopin, it's 5 bucks, but if I get a script for 90, it's 5 bucks.:)
Now, I'm on the spansules. They have 5 mg spansules and 15 is the next up, I think, and since I'm doing pretty well (aside from nausea and a couple other potential things, like I might be b*tchier or my husband just might be trying to pick at stuff for the heck of it) I'll probably stay at this one. You only take the spansules 1 time a day, which is good, because I have major memory problems.
So I get...well, I've been told not to share the quantity of my prescription with anyone, no offense guys, but I've really and truly been warned. I just get a lot of spansules, and it's 5 bucks. They're 5 mg, so I have to take 5 of them, but eh, no big.
Hey--have y'all ever had this happen? This morning, I know for sure that I took my Lamictal. I know I took my Klonopin. But a few minutes later, I couldn't remember if I'd taken my Dex. So I took two, and thought if I went really nuts we'd know for sure...but I still can't really tell--not stupid, like I feel when the dex wears off and first thing in the morning when it hasn't kicked in, but also I'm but not bouncing off the walls like 10 mgs all of a sudden might do to my little body, which by the way is getting littler and littler as time passes...just forgetting to eat. Trying to remember, but not remembering all the time. Only been a month, and I've lost 15 lbs. Not sure what emoticon to use...go with this one:rolleyes:
Anyway, I'll scoot. Gotta go get better printer paper than what we have now, 'cause after my neuro appt. tomorrow, I have to go to a grad school interview.
Over & out...

15 pounds in a month is too much. See someone. Talk to someone. It is not sustainable.
LSD Pixie 02-15-05, 09:44 PM Is adderall the same medication as dexadrine????
I'm on Adderall, 120 mg. daily and it's a godsend!
My symptoms are far from gone but I have graduated from the mini bus to the big bus!!!!!!!...................Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee e
KnittingJunkie 02-16-05, 01:18 AM As far as I know, Adderall and Dexedrine are different...Dexedrine is the brand name of itself--the generic is Dextro(something)amphetamine. Maybe they have similar components.
These guys would know better than I would...

shinobi 02-16-05, 03:11 AM off the top of my head, i think dex and adderall are very similar. Not sure though, try a search of the respective forum areas.
matt99r6 02-16-05, 09:00 PM I am on 5mg 3x a day. It worked for a few days but now it doesn't seem to be as intense and working as well!. Do you think my dosage has to go up?.
shinobi 02-16-05, 10:04 PM i think you should search the dex forum and youll realise that peoples reaction to the drug changes after they have been taking it for a few weeks or whatever. They dont seem to get the energy boost off it that they got when they first started on it. Their working just as well, your body is adjusting to the change though.
KnittingJunkie 02-16-05, 10:53 PM K, specifically asked my doc (remembered--thank you, Mr. Amphetamine) about Dex & Adderall, just for you:p feel special, 'cause I don't even know ya...he said they're very similar, but there's an added component or different manufacturing process or something small w/ the Adderall.
So my bad, thought they were quite a bit different with similar effects, turns out they're like Fraternal Twins--just a tad different in chemical structure as well as effects, but quite similar, too.
Sorry...I thought I knew but didn't and thus was obviously talking out of my @ss!

Machster 02-16-05, 11:59 PM my 2 cents....
Adderol and dex are similar in they share one common component. dex is amphetamine. Adderal is a mixture of amphetamine and noramphetamines. They work on different parts of the brain. The noramphetamine is what makes Adderal so "smooth" Adderal is a four part mixture of these two components. I hope I didn't confuse ya too much!

KnittingJunkie 02-17-05, 12:48 AM That's what it was! Thanks...couldn't remember what he said, dex is dropping off and I think I'm getting the flu--dex has been making me a little nauseous(sp?), but this is nuts...uuughhh...and I have to pick my husband up at a bar in an hour and a half...

Gregster 02-17-05, 11:25 AM Just to clairify, Adderall is a mixture of 4 different amphetamine salts - dextroamphetamine sulphate (the drug in dexedrine), amphetamine aspartate, amphetamine sulphate and dextroamphetamine sacharate. The idea is that by using a combination of dex and levo molecules and the different salts that finish off the tail end of the compounds, the effects and metabolism of the drug in the body are smoothed out. The difference between Dexedrine and Adderall would be subtle in most people.
