I have been diagnosed with inattentive ADD and my Dr. percribed 10 mg of Adderall (generic) twice a day for the first week and 20 mg twice a day for the following three. When I took the first pill yesterday day at about 3pm I could have sworn that I started feeling something almost immediately, but that could be all in my head. Everthing around me seemed to have more detail. Today I have taken both doses and I really don't feel much of anything except tired. I only slept 4.5 last night becuase of the first dose. How long does it usually take to know if you need to if Adderall is working for you? Do you feel different the first day than you do the fifth? I am thinking 10mg twice a day may be too small of dosage but I don't want to increase it before it's time.

Ish -
Welcome to the world of inattentive :)

It may take a week or so for your body to get used to ADDerall. I was very jittery for the first week. After that, I didn't notice any side effects.

Wait out the first week and see what happens. Then increase as your Doc prescribed. If you're still having problems - talk to your Doc. Don't increase dosage without talking to him/her.

You should have been able to tell a difference the first time you took the med. ADDerall (immediate release) doesn't need time to build up in your system for it to work.

When did you take the second dose? Make sure you're taking it at least 4-6 hours before you go to sleep. My last dose of it is at 2pm. Otherwise, I'm up all night.

Your sleep may even out as you stablize on ADDerall.
Some people on ADDerall do take a med to sleep.
Natural products you can try are Valarian Root, Kava Kava or Melatonin.

I hope ADDerall works as well for you as it does for me!!

chaos thanks for your post...
I was wondering about this. I've been on 5mg XR taken once daily in the morning and am on day 13. I just went back and visited the psychologist after about a week of taking the med (my psychologist and psychiatrist work in the same office; very handy) and let her know about that. I told her that I 'did' meth when I was in my early 20's off and on for a few months and that it was a similar feeling at times but only for a burst or short period (jittery and/or talking quickly) and that concerned me. It seems to be tapering off and relaxing me a bit, however, at this stage because I've been pushing out my usual 7.5mg 2x daily dose of Tranxene a couple hours and don't seem to be so jittery this past week. I also plan on taking 10mg of Adderall XR in two weeks; my doc wanted to know how I reacted to the drug. He also wants me to ditch the Tranxene at some point... I think he realizes that I won't need it anymore and he can smell me thinking the same thing. The mind is a powerful thing.

The best thing you can do is to continue talking with your Doc. . . .I hope ADDerall is working well with you, DRM!
