Un-Diagnosed

I have been reading many of the threads on this forum and have most all of the symptoms discribed by the members, as well as some of more clinial sites I have visited. However I don't seem to be as acute as some folks I have read about here.

I am being treated for anxiety and am taking Paxil CR, but I think after reading all of the details about ADD, I have been misdiagnosed.

Question is: Has anyone tried any of the herbal remedies for ADD that you hear and read about?

I have not tried any herbals specifically for it. But I read about a supplement called Chlorella. IT is more a food. A perfect food. In a pill or liquid I beleive. It is algae. I have to give it to my son in the pill since he hates the taste(like cooked spinach) but my dd is too young to take the pill and does not like it sprinkied in her food. It can take up to 4 months to start seeing any results(it detoxes the body and provides superioir nutrition) and we only started a week ago.

I read about it in the letters section of a natural family living magazine. The woman has two kids on the spectrum and she used it in combination with a gluten free diet and saw improvment in her kids sypmtoms. Here is a link to it.

They do sell it on this site, but you can buy it at health stores too.

Ginkgo Biloba helps. I took that when I was taking my break from Adderall. It helps with the brain fog but it doesn't help with the co-existing anxiety/depression/general "blahs" that go along with Inattentive ADD.

I got a little lift from Ginkgo but talk with your doc about mixing it and Paxil. For anxiety I rely on GABA. It is better than those meds that end in ___pram.

I take chlorella, and it IS wonderful! It gives me SO much energy, and when you're feeling a bit under the weather, it really helps the immune system.

I've taken Sam-E, Gingko-biloba, L-Tyrosine, and DLPA.
They do help mood stability and focus.
The thing that stinks about them, or taking any med, is that you have to take it consistently for consistent results. So, sometimes I forget to take it (go figure) and sometimes my wife decides to take my stuff off the kitchen counter and "organize" it in the cabinet. Which means I totally forget it's there: "out of sight, out of mind!"

So, I do think the RIGHT combination of herbal remedy will help. The trick is finding the right cocktail to take. I found my from brainplace.com after research and experimentation.

Oh, I almost forgot: sometimes B12/B6 helps too.

I've just started taking Gingko Biloba, and it seems to be helping. Taking 5-HTP at night is just awesome for insomnia (my husband takes it during the day for anxiety and it really helps him, but I can't take it in the daytime because it makes me too sleepy). I can't do without my L-Tyrosine for depression-I've been taking that for years now-helps your thryoid too.

I just bought a complete amino acid formula-the first day I took it, I noticed quite a change in how I could focus, it was very calming too-but by the third day on it, I was depressed. So that's something I think I will take when the "anxiety" and "brain jitters" really hit-not something for me to take on a regular basis though-I've noticed that I can't take "calming" things every day without getting depressed.

I just bought some Gaba, I had been hearing about how good that was for people with ADD/ADHD-took it yesterday, but havent' taken any today, as I seem to be calm.

You just have to experiement-try Googling a search like "Alternative treatents for ADD" and then make a list and try things until you find one that helps the most.....

People who are afflicted with ADD always suffer from much lower electrical life force in their brains than average people who do not suffer from ADD. There is a portion of the brain called the substancianigra which is responsible for producing dopamine that is the neurotransmitter which is deficient in people who have ADD. If you’re deficient in dopamine and you try to concentrate that part of the brain, the pre-frontal cortex that should increase its activity actually decreases its activity. All this is directly related to the amount of electrical energy you have available in your brain. Crystal salt being probably the most powerful carrier of electrical life force is one wonderful element in combating ADD and together with a whole food natural diet, exercise and certain applications in how a person learns material. So use crystal salt, drink enough water and eat a natural whole food diet, use organic foods, eat enough raw foods, use Klamath Blue Green Algae, which is another wonderful wild food supplement that helps people with ADD.
