I find that at the end of the day, when the adderall has worn off, I get this very subtle light-headed feeling - the kind of feeling you get when you have been concentrating intensly. Its not a bad feeling, just noticable.

In the evening, I've found that effect of a glass of wine (or two) is very different than when I did not take Adderall. It feels very good, and helps me wind down.

When I was an "Adderall virgin" I drastically cut down my alcohol consumption because it no longer seemed pleasurable. Now, for some reason, its different and I've found myself drinking a bit more than I had in the past.

I've been taking Adderall for about a year now.

Anybody else had a similar experience?

do you have problems with energy and staying up at night when you've had a few drinks?

No not at all - I've never had a sleep problem with Adderall - except the first week when I started. Alcohol will make me a little drowsy but not to where I can't stay up.

I'm pretty much the opposite. Since I started any meds for ADD, all my drinking has gone downhill...guess that's a good thing. Through the strattera, ritalin, concerta, and adderall, I've found that drinking in the evening usually produces a rehash of the speedy feeling or makes me somewhat anxious. EVEN WORSE, I don't really get buzzed anymore / or drunk. It just kinda takes me to a level of not really feeling all that great, somehwat intoxicated, but not good. Then just stay that way the whole night.
Since starting adderall, I've been much better about not drinking much at all because my doc really warned against it. But when I have, it doesn't seem to let me relax...
Maybe you just got sick of liquor now you're back in the game and just happen to have adderall in ya. And it's novelty came back after stopping drinking for a while...

I was told to avoid it! Like I told Calscooby, I'll be getting a physical next Friday and I'll be asking many questions!

Wait, I hear a Long Trail Ale calling me....:D

i love alcohol for a comedown. marijuana is "suposedly" good too. painkillers work best.

(I hope this doesn't count as inproper use of the medications as mentioned in that admin post. If it does then sorry, I wasn't sure.)

As a college student with ADD I've gone to parties and drank with out even thinking about the adderall. You take it everyday so you forget about it you know.
Alcohol is on the do not mix list, but I agree that if does make the experience way more enjoyable. Normaly I can drink a decent amount for my size and I don't feel as good, but with adderall; two drinks and I'm in an uncoordinated stupor giggling like a fool.

The first time I drank with adderall I had like four drinks and had the worst stomach pains the next day. I can see why alcohol is on the no mix list. That is the stuff ulcers are made of. It was a great tiem the night before though.
I have to plan ahead and not take adderall the day before a party now. And if I'm invided at the last minute I will only have one or two drinks if any.

One of the major dangers of mixing Adderall and alcohol is that the Adderall will keep you awake and drinking long after you've drank too much. For most people, once you've had too much for the night, you don't really have the energy to drink any more and eventually you just pass out, hopefully not around friends who have magic markers. When on Adderall, it is entirely possible to stay awake past this point and unwittingly consume a lethal dose of alcohol. Then, when the Adderall wears off, the effect of the alcohol hits full force, and unconsciousness and coma can follow.

For me, Adderall pretty much counteracts the effects of alcohol. One or two drinks might make me slightly more social and talkative, but if I drink beyond that, I simply don't get drunk. I might have difficulty walking, but I don't lose focus, have difficulty in judgement, or any of the other obvious effects of alcohol. However, I also have a decent natural tolerance to alcohol...blame it on a Russian/Irish background, I guess...so I tend not to get very drunk anyways, never "black out," and rarely ever get sick, although this is also because I'm not a ******* and don't drink to excess.

Oh, and there is an increased risk of dehydration, as both drugs have this effect. Drink plenty of water, or better yet isotonic sports drinks like Gatorade. Hyperthermia, or increased body temperature, is a possible effect as well, which could happen in a packed bar on a hot night, especially without AC.

That being said, having one or two drinks probably shouldn't cause any problems with Adderall, assuming that you have no health problems with one or two drinks on its own.

So with some people it counters the effect of alcohol and in others it exagerates it. That is so weird.

You know, I would never have thought of over heating. I usually feel cold, even if it isn't cold out, because my fingers and toes are almost always cold. Over heating is go to keep in mind I guess.

The fingers and toes thing has to do with blood circulation. Adderall is a vasoconstrictor, so it will do that. But it also raises your core body temperature, as all stimulants do. Alcohol also raises your body temperature.

Body temp is usually not an issue, unless you are in a packed bar with no AC on a hot night, or in a dance club or some other similar situation. Dehydration, on the other hand, would be a very serious danger, especially in the summer where you will naturally be sweating more.
