I've been taking stratera for Since Dec 2002 and without going into detail the side affects are more than the benefits. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000727.html is a link of a summary of things i've experienced.
This drug has been a benefit in helping me control temper, remove the needless worrying I used to experience and be more even tempered towards my kids/wife. I also take a generic form of time-release ritalin ( two a day 20 milligrams each). I've been on this for 10 years and it helped me changed my life for the better. I was wondering if there are others who have tried something other than stratera and Ritalin together to treat ADD. The ritalin helps me concentrate, allows the creativity to come out and concentrate to do multiple things at once under stressful times. The stratera helps in the down times to maintain a normal feeling and not having the desire of the highs of ADD i tend to get when the ritalin starts to wear off.
I don't know what else you've tried but wellbutrin works for me in smoothing out the transition period when the adderall wears off.l
what side affects, if any did you experience? One of the main reasons I'm doing research on other meds besides stratera is the side affects that come with it. i like the benefits stratera but there aren't enough to put up with them on a daily basis. appreciate any feedback you can provide.

SCS: I was on Strattera for a month WITH MY WELLBUTRIN...and I had equally horrible side effects with it.....so many I won't go into it...some of them downright embarrassing....however, I've been on Wellbutrin several years now and other than occasional loss of appetite, no side affects at all...and tends to help with depression and ADD....
I'm not so depressed as i am having needless worrying, short temper, and a tendancy to "strive for highs" when not taking the stratera. isn't welbutrin more of an anti-depressent. the reason i keep asking is there aren't too many doctors around here that are up on adult adhd. TIA!

Yes, Wellbutrin is an anti-depressant, and used to treat ADD as well....As for needless worry, do you mean anxiey? I am on another med for that (klonopin PRN)....Short temper -- still struggle with....not on med for that and do struggle with short temper sometimes. I may be on too much Wellbutrin (400 mg per day) which may exacerbate short temper -- but I need that much for my depression and ADD symptoms (dam if you do and dam if you don't). YES I STRIVE FOR HIGHS....but am okay with that....
SCS -- Does your doctor have any suggestions?
I had a few side effects he first few weeks on wellbutrin but the benifits were worth getting through them. After I had been on it for around 9 months I had to stop taking it for awhile. I had been taking 300 mg a day in 2 doses. Now I take it at 100mg once a day and it is working well again.
i'm going to give wellbutrin a try for a month or two. i talked with a doc that knows drugs and at first wellbutrin was targeting anti-depressed folks but the way stratera helped me wellbutrin might help according to them.
i've noticed items since i went off stratera things like (needless worrying, negative thinking, procrastination, impulsive, bit of doom/glom has returned and also a bit of a quick temper. these affects quantify in the winter after the holidays. stratera helped me make it through last winter without having this. When the generic ritalin is working these side affects are at minimum but do creep in after a long day at work and being tired. I've been taking another dose of ritalin to help subside symptons and not have things that are mole hills turn into mountains.
Some of the positive items that have returned since stop taking is my ability to hyperfocus on hard subjects and excel at them. I used to struggle when taking stratera to have this wonderful trait ADD people have. Also being creative when it comes to solving problems and being able to "think out of the box" ability has returned to come up with alternative solutions. All of the physical symptons are gone, the "family jewels" or that area doesn't throb. I've noticed also being constipated has disappeared. Hope this helps someone out there because this forum has helped me realize don't just take what is given, go after to make life better. TIA..
