details experiments using eye-contact measurement in infants at risk of autism, and found that between 2 and 6 months, the length of contact maintained declined significantly in infants who were later diagnosed with autism compared with children who were not autistic.

The article is a summary of the research, but includes some of the methodology, and it's interesting to see that it had some potentially important findings for early identification and treatment.
