I'll start with the easy one, Common biology shared in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (http://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-11-common-biology-schizophrenia-bipolar-disorder.html#nwlt) which was done at Yale, and was using both genetic markers and brain imaging to see what the common elements were. Can't give you more than that, because the American Journal of Psychiatry won't let me see it for free.

The second is from Nature, GWAS meta analysis identifies TSNARE1 as a novel Schizophrenia / Bipolar susceptibility locus (http://www.nature.com/srep/2013/131029/srep03075/full/srep03075.html?WT.ec_id=SREP-20131105)
and looked at almost 10,000 cases to identify six specific loci that seem to be shared and may be indicative of a heritable gene that leads to a predisposition to the overlapping symptoms of both conditions.
