This is the Main Paige of the Forums that everyone see when they log on

(after the first page that redirects you )

My question is this

How many people find the first page over whelming and especially new users as ther is too much information there to absorb the main idea ,

which is the title of the paticular forums

On the main page we have 3 types of information presented and I would like to get a general oppinion of what everybody likes the best

Please look at the pictures and vote based on what style of main menu that is best for you

On the upper right-hand corner of every section is a double shevron (two of these: ^ ) Click that, and the section you're in is minimized. If you leave the forums set like that, it should remember your preferences.

That never actually worked for me Andrew. But I'm using the Linux version of Mozilla so maybe that's the reason.

I'm using Firefox (windows) v 1.0.1 and most flavors of IE work as well

Yes that does work for me also except when the forums are minimised like that then you cant see any of the forums

I am just curious as to peoples oppinions as I have seen many posts from new people about how overwhelming the amount of information is

My personal preference is the 3rd option where there is just the title of the forum and then once you go into that area you have narrowed the impact of information overload down to a specific topic

Im not sugesting we change anything

Just curious to other peoples thoughts about the main page as I myself find it overwhelming when Im just looking

There may be a way to configure that...but it will take some looking into on my part. If people want a simpler, sleeker look....I'll have to work on that as some type of modification/upgrade path.

Actually, now that I think about it...it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to clean all that out, if that's what the majority want. You can also set the forums template to look like Version 1 of the forums. Check your User CP for that option.

I have to say that I prefer the full information. Yes, the volume of information here is enormous and I like the short summary that tells me that I am heading in the right direction. Without it I would have to click in and out of many sub-forums before finding the areas that I want. It also helps me when considering where to write a new thread.

I found it "frightening" in the beginning, too, but learned fairly quickly how to get around and that I couldn't do much "wrong". I guess I see it as the role of others here in the forums, be it moderators or members, to make contact with those who are feeling overwhelmed to offer assistance. It makes the new members also feel more welcome, I think, to have "contact" at the beginning with the "old-timers".

Well I am getting my concenses towards what people think of the Main page and that is good that we live in a comunity where you can ask these questions and reply with your answers.

I myself am really liking the Sub Forums that Andrew has been working on setting up throughout the Forums
