the last couple holiday seasons something has become clear to me

i always look forward to it, why do we look forward to things?

one reason is, the attachment of positive emotion to the event in the past. So every season i keep getting this feeling like im missing something

maybe an old decoration or black friday shopping, or whatever

ive finally come to realize that my outward search for a missing link is futile

its the positive emotion thats missing, i think ive completely numbed over

I think we anticipate the gratification associated with the surrounding events.

I often feel like something is "missing," right before I spiral downward into depression.

I've also learned that the very search in and of itself of something "missing" leads to dismay and an never-ending longing that cannot be satisfied.

Mindfulness/self-awareness (as you know) helps with this
