has anyone been on Bromocriptine? doctors don't believe in bromocriptine for ADD maybe because along with increasing dopamine it decreases norepinephrine and for those with attentional issues it can be bad.. I'm not a doctor but google tells me that bromocriptine therapy can in time increase the amount and the strength of dopamine receptors! so it might open a door to grow out of ADD of course if used in combination with a low dose of an stimulant or maybe an antidepressant (desipramine, edronax) in order to avoid depression.
I was first prescribed bromocriptine for hyperprolactinemia and google told me that it is a dopamine agonist.. :)
Bromocriptine is mostly known for it's antiparkinson effect and nowadays some use it for weight loss and anti aging effects..
I've never taken it and don't know much about it. Just looking on medline at the side effects seems to indicate that it ought to be psychoactive. It is chemically related to hydergine, which is used to treat Alzheimers and has been shown to decrease emotional lability and indifference to surroundings (attention), and increase cognitive function.
That being said, just because a med is a dopamine agonist does not necessarily mean it will help you with ADD. Some meds, particularly those prescribed for parkinsonism, might be active primarily in parts of the brain not involved in ADD. Based on what little I've read, it seems like it might be worth doing a study to see if it is effective for ADD, but I don't know as I'd like to be a guinea pig. :-)

I was perscribed Parlodel (Bromocriptine) for a prolactinoma when I was @22. I am currently seeking treatment for ADD. You have an interesting hypothesis, but I remember having serious side effects (dizzines, nausea and lethargy) from Parlodel and eventually took myself off of it after a year. Fortunately, it was determined that the year of treatment was sufficient enough to cause the tumor to atrophy and disappear.
