I was recently diagnosed with ADD and am beginning treatment.

I am reading a book on the subject, and I find many similarities between myself, and the people described in the book (and with people posting on this site as well).

I am finding that I am not being a very good father to my 3.5 year old son. I am wondering how much of this I can attribute to ADD symptoms. Or am I just plain lazy? I run my own business, and I just don't have time to be everything to everyone. When I do have time for my family, I usually just sit around and don't have any motivation or energy to be a good husband/father.

I am anxious to see how my treatment for ADD affects my family life...............but I wanted to solicit your experiences on the matter.......

Thanks.

Hi

Treatment definately helps. I am still a bit unpredicatable sometimes but overall it's heaps better. It also gets better as the kids get older. The main problem I have is that if I'm not careful with how I behave, the kids see me as one of them and then start challenging my authority.

Without treatment I know that I would never be 1/2 the father I am now. I have the patience and concentration to be with my little girl, teach her stuff, and really experience, as best I can, what it is like for her being 7 years old in today's world. Thank the Lord I was diagnosed before it was too late because I know I am a better father because of treatment
