I just got my first massage today, I'm only 20 and the masseuse couldn't believe how tight my muscles were. She said I really needed to get more sleep, she brought up using warm milk, and I mentioned that my grandma said she used to put a bit of whiskey in her milk, it knocked her out cold. But whenever I've had a lot to drink, I can fall asleep very easily but then I wake up at some odd time of the night. But the masseuse said that in my case, some sleep was better than none. I regularly cannot sleep even if I'm very tired, my mind is always a whirl.

I think I might be a bit lactose intolerant so I was thinking of using Nyquil instead, even though I can't stand cold medicine. Does anyone have any thoughts?

The quality of sleep you get from alcohol is pretty terrible. Just think how you would feel after waking up with a hangover. However, if it's just a little nightcap before bed, I don't really see the problem with it. One drink a day (especially if it's something like red wine, which has been shown to have some health benefits in moderation) probably isn't enough to hurt anyone who's otherwise healthy. If you're constantly sleep-deprived due to this issue, I'd definitely consider seeing a doctor, maybe even a sleep specialist.

You did not mention if you were taking any meds so this may or may not help. Perhaps it is all in my head but I was finding Adderall was creating some sleep problems for me as well (like in who needs it?) Recently, at least an hour before bed I have been eating or drinking anything that is claimed to interfere with its absorbtion. I was washing down my multi vitamin with big glasses of cranberry juice etc. My theory is the citric acid it is pulling the "junk" out of my system and washing it away. It is pretty recent experiment but it seems to working great
