Some of you may like these birds. Awesome sound on the lakes, I started with the head so this is where I am at.
Lot of learning for me with this one.

Can I just tell you Dave, these are my favorite birds! Ever since my husband and I saw On Golden Pond we have always joked that we were like loons, we mated for life. If I could buy a copy of this I would.

The Loon is the State Bird of Minnesota.

As a Minnesota resident, I wholeheartedly approve! Lovely!

Thanks Ian

I took off early excited to get a good 5 hrs in on this. It's when I start thinking about painting around lunch and can get away from the shop early to paint I get excited.
Anyway This part is interesting, water reflections have always been a favorite subject of mine.

I spent a few hours last night working the back ground and decided I want more drama, so I did something I hope I can work out. I have the idea in mind but now to figure the right path to walk on this. Artist seem to only want to post their accomplishments and not their failures, I don't know it this will be a failure but I thought this would be a good look at what I do ..... a lot to myslef LOL

Wow! This is super amazing :faint::faint:
May I ask what is the paint you have used? (oil, acrylic, etc..)

No paint vp, I use inks. Their really amazing once you get use to them. There is no texture with them.

I like it, it's got its' own style, something that tends to not happen with a lot of artwork i've seen. The way you painted it, you put more emphasis on the water and the wings, and less emphasis on the head. That's something I don't useually see with bird paintings, usually the head is the most detailed, but this lack of emphasis on the head, kind of draws your eye to the wings and the reflection. I don't know if you did that on purpose or not though?

Thanks! ... I didn't know that one could make a painting with all these different colours by using ink!... Amazing!

Intro This head is done in as a part of the painting. I know what you mean. I like the viewer to see brush strokes. I am not a realist per-say as an air brush artist would be that we do share a bit of the same theory given over to illustration. I do love reflections if you have seen the Pelicans that was a mind twister for me. I very much appreciate your comment. Thank you.

so here's where I'm at I did some details tonight.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc291/DHHawk/20140929_212727.jpg (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/DHHawk/media/20140929_212727.jpg.html)

Im getting questions why loons are blue when they're supposed to being black. The answer is reflection, the light waves with the longest wave being blue and the reflection from the water. So here is the prove that the reflections are blue. The color is what drew me to paint these.
