View Full Version : Where does a 39 year old meet guys?
Hi I'm curious where a woman can meet a guy in his 30s or 40s?
I would love to make friends first and then maybe move up a level. My sister and I went to a bookstore and there were a few good ones there, any other Ideas?
joanrdtobe 08-04-03, 08:43 PM THere will be a singles ADD dating service starting shortly. Someone on this forums is constructing it....ALso, are you into online dating websites such as match.com or udate.com. Kassie, what are your hobbies? Go pursue them....tennis, or swimming or joining a YMCA or even meeting guys at your church....Do you have friends/relatives who know people who are available? Also, would you like to share a littile about yourself here? Right now? Maybe someone will respond and you will at least make a new friend, which is what you are looking to do:) Share what you feel safe sharing about yourself.....You are welcome to do that.....
Jellybean 08-06-03, 02:03 AM Well I tend to meet them at walmart! I am never looking for one when this happens though. I am a latenight shopper tis the only place open. Otherwise in the water at the beach.
I haven't actually ever called a walmart shopper! Until yesterday as he was a very clear, intelligent, handsome sort. We have quite a few friends in common. So we will see what happens. I am convinced that it only happens when it is the last thing on your mind. Which is usually for me. I am also never dressed nice or well groomed at these moments.. Life is very strange!!
Good luck Cassie, perhaps if you get very immersed in one of your hobbies you will have your guard down and then the unexpected will happen.
Thank you, Joan.
Well, I'm 39, of Irish Scot stock. I have auburn hair, more brown during winter, more red during summer. I have green hazel eyes.
I love to laugh and to sing. Music is such a real part of my life, even though I'm a CAD designer for a Civil Engineer company. I'm Catholic so Advent is my favorite season. I have two children, a girl whos 15 and a son whos 12. I have cats even though I'm allergic to them ;) I'm into: Swimming, soccer, baseball, art, anime, fantasy books such as Dragonrider of Pern, redwall series, and Sword of Shannara, I also like: chocolate, low carbing, and good ice cream... not at the same time :D Music I like is varied: For example: Sinead Lohan, Wallflowers, REM, and Grey Eye Glances oh and Collective Soul. Music that stirs me.
OK thats a start.
Debralee 08-18-03, 07:17 PM I really don't have any tips for finding a date except for the ones that have already been mentioned. But sometimes you find someone when you are not really looking...like at "Walmart"...as someone mentioned in the posts above. I am sort of leery of those online ad places just because my Mom has done that and she has been so disappointed so many times. I am not a child...btw..I am older than you ..I am 42 btw...so just gives you an idea of how old my Mom is...yes she is puter literate and trying to find love over the internet...If you do decide to go the cyber way..just be careful and ask lots of questions kkkkkkkk?
:)
I have found lots of great online friends that I have met in person and lots that I hope one day to meet...this world can be really fun but there is a darker side too...I am sure you are old enough to know that too!
Good luck in your search!
waywardclam 08-19-03, 12:20 PM Well I'd love to meet ya but my wife would probably object. :D :D :D
Speaking as a guy, my advice would be to go out and do social things that interest you. You say you are into singing... maybe there is a choir or a glee club or something you could join. Or sign up for a "fun" league of one of the sports you are interested in, or take a class on one of those subjects you know you like.
These are all places to meet guys who are interested in the same things you are.
I think it's very important to not just find a partner, but to find a partner who shares at least some of your interests.

And according to her picture, she's got a great smile...Okay, any single men interestied in further correspondence with Kassie, please leave a short note here or PM her.....:)
healthwiz 08-19-03, 12:44 PM I think the Cucumber section of the grocery store is the best place to catch the fliitatious look of a guy.
Take a course in flirting!
Also, college courses, community classes, Sierra club and that sort of social org, are all good meeting places. The local coffee shops might have a "discussion nite" where the public is invited to come in and debate a particular topic on world affairs or whatever the topic is that night. That is a talking event. Look for talking events.
Don't forget, flirting is an art, and there is no point in disposing of an art that has worked for women and men throughout the ages. Its time to hike up the wardrobe, get some short skirts (within comfort, show some cleavage, smile at men, put on some eye lashes.. You can flirt without having any intention of going out with a guy. Just flirt and have fun, and give the other person an ego boost. You don;t have to go out with someone you flirt wiht, it is a trial period, to see if the fun flirtatious vibes even exist or if you have something in common, and a way to find out more that whats on the surface, something personal about another.
Those are my thoughts!! Of course, I'm married. I still flirt a little though, even with my wife! It keeps things going.
Its a big compliment when someone flirts with you, so remember that when you are thinking you are too shy or conservative or appropriate to flirt.
Jonathan
Debralee 08-19-03, 12:53 PM ROTFLMAO cucumber section of the grocery store!!!! Well I have heard it all now...lol...Kassie I swear you will get some imaginative advice here for sure!!!!!!
joanrdtobe 08-19-03, 01:08 PM Debra: I think she already has!! What is "ROTFLMAO"????
Debralee 08-19-03, 01:31 PM Joan..psssssssssst..rolling on the floor laughing my *** off!!!!!!!
joanrdtobe 08-19-03, 01:32 PM OOOHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Never heard that:D :D :D
Debralee 08-19-03, 01:35 PM You learn something new in here everyday..lol...well at least I do...!!!!!!!
joanrdtobe 08-19-03, 01:42 PM Oh my God, don't I know it....Um, think I'll go to the grocery store after I'm done here and check out the produce section.....Some great vegetables in season now, possibly the cucumbers??:D
waywardclam 08-19-03, 03:57 PM You might check out your local Society For Creative Anachronism, if you are into fantasy, some overlapping interest there. They are a medieval reenactment group, sort of like Ren Faires done on the weekend crossed with socializing and goofing off. They're all over the world and I think a huge number of them are undiagnosed ADDers. :D :D :D
www.sca.org
I actually did that in the late 80s, I learned how to use a short sword/dagger fighting stance also how to use a shield. I actually learned some natural healing things (though I did cheat by putting ground up aspirin in cheese cloth and making tea then adding it ;) ) It was alot of fun. Hard to keep up with when you have two ADD teens like I do. :)
Wait...short swords, asperin, cheese cloth and tea? Sounds real kinky ;)
waywardclam 08-20-03, 05:32 PM Hehehe, I'm a ******* sword fighter myself, a very unusual fighting style in the SCA...
You might consider going back though. Your teens might like it too, and God knows there are harder places to find good, single people.
Andrew, if you think that's kinky, you should have seen my chainmail, vavavoom! ;)
healthwiz 08-20-03, 06:26 PM chained male? Vavavoom? Are you in the cucumber section? At least wait till you get that hunk who knows nuthin about vegetables home!
Jon
waywardclam 08-20-03, 06:44 PM LOL :D :D :D
Quite a mental picture isn't it ;)
Did you learn to make any armor, Paul?
waywardclam 08-23-03, 03:03 AM I have armour but it's pretty basic. Typical ADD: the fighting stimulates me, but the armouring doesn't at all. :D :D :D
That's too funny! I made the chain armor, link by link, I was able to "hyper focus" So I finished mine in a quarter time than the others. Sigh I wish I still had it, my son would have loved it!
Deb, rather than the Cucumber section, to get looks from women I hang out at the Melons picking 'em up, squeeezing, smelling...I just haven't gotten the courage to bite into any yet. (You know how the stores have the surveillance cameras and all...)
Heck, as it is i'm probably being on the border-line of being hauled to jail by hanging out in the Melons for such long periods of time!!!
Now, I just have to figure what the looks the women give me mean!!!! LOL
(i'm kidding folks...just wanted to get in on the fun!!!)
Oh my gosh that was toooo funny!!!!
I wish I lived in Texas for I would love to see that!!
If its younger guys you're looking to meet, Word of advice...DON'T hang out near the prunes.......:D
healthwiz 08-27-03, 09:46 PM rofl
Well Miss Kassie....I can ask the store if they'll sell any of the surveillance videos to ya'!!! That way you wouldn't have to travel and could watch from the comfort of your own living room!!!
*Don pictures Miss Kassie popping in the video, lays down on the couch with a bowl of popcorn, and watches in rapt wonder at that idiot Don as he's fondling Melons while he is trying in vain to look non-chalant about it*
*giggle & grin* ;)
healthwiz 08-28-03, 08:42 AM Thats It! I'm starting a dating club! The Melonairres Club!
:) Jon
ROTFL!!!!!! Eeeexcellent reply, Jon!!!
*hehehe*
healthwiz 08-28-03, 04:28 PM Get your melons! Get your melons! Watch the dating game or be in the dating game, get your melons! Take em home or squeeze em now, get your melons! Join the Melonaiires Club and get your melons today!
(sorry folks I could not help it - I just heard that peanut guy at the stadium saying his thing - get your peanuts - and I couldn't help it - had to add that to the thread!)
:)
Jon
waywardclam 08-28-03, 05:45 PM You should be more exclusive about your club, be careful who you let in.
The selection process could be called, "Who Wants To Be A Melonnaire?"
hehehe :D
healthwiz 08-28-03, 08:37 PM Perfect! - I think you should be annointed Sr VP of "Who Wants To Be A Melonnaire"!!
Hahahahahah!
I want to! I want to!
Do I get to call someone?!
I was on Yahoo messenger the other day and three "men" wanted to chat with me: A 50 year old biker who was married, a 31 year old who was married but looking, and an 11 year old boy!
Could you believe???
Sigh. On a sad note, I lost one of my penpal the other day. Still sad about it. :(
Guess I need to hit the grocery store ;)
waywardclam 10-03-03, 12:37 PM Sorry Kassie... but speaking as a married man... seeing someone like you go by... can you blame us for being interested? hehehe :D :D :D
I'm sure the right guy for ya will arrive sooner or later. "You can't hurry love, no no, you'll just have to wait..."
Try to hang in there...
. o O (He's such a smooth talker...)
He's right though, Kassie!
Wheel1975 10-03-03, 02:48 PM My wife and I found each other by... her going to aerobic dance class with women who went to my church singles group... she got invited to a dinner function on a river boat, and we met.
the rest, is, history.
OK. so she gave me a phone numbe at her work ( a school) that wasn't answered ALL SUMMER) and she had a habit of unplugging her telephone to avoid being disturbed... So I had to ask a mutual friend for an address and MAIL her a post card asking her out for a date....
medsman 10-03-03, 03:11 PM I subscribe to the idea of going after what you want. If you want to meet walmart shoppers go to walmart. If you want to meet attys to to atty functions. If you are an artist and want to meet other artists. Whereever you go, you will still find yourself
