I think the chat is such a good idea in this forum, it is such a shame that so few is using it. I am from Europe, and we have a difficult problem with the time differences since most of the ADD family is in America. For me though it is a problem that so few are in the chat. I think that a lot of people want to, but that is it a part of our problem just to dare.... I hope that the administrators find a way too HIGHLIGHT the chat, have people in there to talk, 24 hours.... Then people will come.
Most can't seem to wait more than a nano second to wait for someone to show. If people would learn to leave a window open and do "/beepall" then when someone goes in and you've been idle you'd hear someone has come in if they post.
It's going to take some time to build it up. Maybe with your help we can get more folks in there around the clock.
Cheers! Ian.
I have checked in the chat room several times when I've been here and no one is ever there
Oskar - where in Europe are u from ?
I think more people would join if you switched to an irc chat instead of forcing everybody to use the built in java client on the site. That way everybody can use their own client and people will idle there. Then people will always be on and there will always be people to talk to. There is no reason why a forum of this size shouldn't have a full chat room.
I agree with you. When I first joined I pushed this idea hard. The owner is familiar with IRC and knows how much work it is to keep safe and civil. I also agree that the java chat that exists here now is not the best but it's miles above what it was like when I first came here.
People here have never become use to a chat culture. It blows my mind to think of how many members are here and people don't wait for each other in chat.
Some of the best times I have had here were in chat. That's how I've met most of the people I"m closest to here just because it's that much more dynamic than the main board.
A structured chat is often scheduled but I am really bad with set time meetings like that so never make it.
Any ideas as to how to cultivate it up to a busier place?

It is not that I dont want to wait but I go in when it is a schedule chat with a moderator and no one is there. There use to be in Jan when i first started alot of people talking . I wonder what happened. Now it iseems there is no in there.
Life gets busy I guess...

Im in chat at the moment .... but am all alone :P
Well... if you post here there is a prayer someone might pick it up! eheh Hope you can make it a habit so we can meet there.
Cheers!
I was just a little too late to catch you!
Is it possible that the chat is not working at all and that's the reason everybody only sees themself?
Nah, it does get dead busy sometimes.

There is an ADD chat room run by a board user, but few people use it so it's never checked.
Yup I've had some rauchous times in there myself. Some of my best connections with members have come from the chat here.
Okay, I thought I had better ask just in case.;)

I have stopped by the chat rooms a couple of times my self and I am the only one there. I am also a nano-second person. If there aint no one else there I pop off. I haven't tried keeping that window open while I do the forum thing!!! Depends on how much "bandwitch" or what ever it take to keep the chat window open. I am on dial up and my computer is easily overwhelmed by my ADD.
The time thing is more than like one issue that effects chats. We are so many from so many time zones that what is good for me may not be good for some one in Europe!!!
Also the "live" or timed portions may affect some ADDers participation. I will do chats on occasion but prefer the general board because the board goes at my personal speed. Conversation isn't "flowing" on post it is closer to still life???? I can reply at two in the morning to a post written by some one else at three in the afternoon. Plus with the general board I can reply to a post even if the "conversation" has gone in a different direction by simply high-lighting and pasting the part I am responding to. Also on the general board I have the option to "approach" another member by privite message. I don't know the general board is less anxiety producing. I find chat tiering, and there is a timing thing I don't quit get!!!
