These are excellent. I really enjoyed them. And I agree that you have quite a varying range. I virtually take only sun photos, but I'm thinking now, after reviewing yours, that it is partly because it takes sunsets to make an older phone's photos be appealing.

Do you optimize yours, or are they unchanged from the moment you snap the photo?

...I envy you your ability with macro .....landscapes I am good at ....been doing those for many decades now ...but macro ? ....can't get it to focus .....

Thanks all.

I guess the range is just the effect of me pointing the camera toward “ooh, pretty!” ;)

The images have been resized from the original files, but no color correction or other manipulations have been done. No flash was used.

The camera is a pocket-sized Canon point-and-shoot. I hope to get a more capable camera someday.

cheers,
Ian

These are beautiful. :) I suggest a DSLR for your next camera. I'm hoping to upgrade my Canon Rebel t3i to a Canon 6d soon.

Awesome photos, Aeon! The vivid colors are great and the composition top-notch! I'm especially drawn to the snow covered bridge and the birds perched in the tree. Simplicity speaks volumes. Thanks for sharing.

For some time, the links to the photographs at the beginning of this thread were broken due to PhotoBucket changing their policy. I suppose they changed it back because I can see them again.

Well, following are a few more. :)

All of the pictures at the beginning of the thread and at the end, including that flowerburst as well were all taken with a Canon Powershot SD800IS/Digital Elph camera...it came out in 2006, and you could get one used for $20-$30.

https://www.dcresource.com/images/news/canon_091406/SD800IS-3Q.jpg

So just a pocket camera. I didn’t use its little flash back then, and I am not using the camera now.

No color correction or editing beyond cropping and sizing for the web was done.

So basically, what you see is what the camera saw at the time, with whatever light was available.

That flowerburst was just that colorful and lovely, so I had to take a picture of it.

Cheers,
Ian

You are very talented then. I don't think I could have gotten some of these, even with my more expensive camera.

Not ice...it is a microwaved compact disc recordable (CD-R) illuminated with a 2000-lumen flashlight, shot with a macro lens on my phone. ;)

Not in a million years would I have figured that out. The photo is beautiful but the unconventional art you created and how is what’s amazing.

Well done! How the hell did you ever come up with that idea and make it work out so spectacularly?

A depth of field test of my new lens, a Samyang/Rokinon 50mm f/1.2 AS USM.
Camera used is a Canon EOS M. This was shot fully open, at f/1.2. (ISO100, 1/15 sec.)
The lens is manual...focusing was achieved via magnified live view.

The “h” in “Scotch” is in focus, but because the image plane is not parallel to the box,
the “S” is well out of focus, given the razor-thin depth of field. Click the link to see
the full-size image and you can clearly see the halftone dots of the box are captured.
The row of boxes had 2"/5cm space between each successive box.

Exposure adjustment, color correction, and image crop were performed in
Adobe Camera Raw/Photoshop.

No other editing or retouching has been performed. All of the blur you see is part of
the optics of the glass at wide aperture.

Cheers,
Ian

Did you specifically break the cd to get this shot or did you accidentally break the cd and noticed it would be a nice shot?

No, you just put the CD-R in the microwave for 5 seconds and it produces the cracking effect (with a flash of sparking and arcing). Try it!
