A recent ad in our local paper said IS THIS THE NAUGHTIEST BOY IN BRITAIN OR DOES HE HAVE ADHD! There was a so called phsycologist who said there is no such thing and naughty kids are down to bad parents. It really bugs me that these people are so ignorant to the fact that adhd does exist. A lot of doctors of course said she was wrong good for them!!! My son has been on medication for a year and he is happy and has lots more friends and his parents arent that bad ha ha. best wishes to everyone.

Well in britain there is a very good reason for putting it all down to bad parenting. If they had to actually treat the conditions these children have, as well as help the parents to cope better, the already crumbling NHS would fall to its knees and die.

The "I blame the parents" routine is not only used as a general disregard the problem excuse, but it also absolves the NHS of guilt when the inevitable fall-out happens.

According to Some ADHD theorists, all your ADHDers left the country to start the United States....

:)

So you don't have any! (just kidding!)

yes i have heard that theory. There is another similer one floating about like that now.
They are trying to explain why the instance of ADHD is higher in Ireland. The idea is that all the Celts retreated to Ireland to get away from the Normans and such. They believe there is somthing about the Celts genetic make-up or brain wiring that makes them more ADHD like.

WOW! That makes sense to me and it would explain all the heavy breeding and boozing. (I can say it as I am one of 'em). Some person tried to get a poll going on that very subject a while back, or maybe it was just a question thread.

Interesting. We are trying to put this puzzle togehter, and in a few years there will be enough genetic mapping information to explain everything that has a genetic cause... then we will be challenged to acknowledge that some things AREN't genetic..! ha!

There are plenty of people in the USA that think ADD/ADHD is not real. I have met some of them. Especially in the South.

i choose to see add as evolution - we live in a multitasking world, so our brains are learning to multitask. some of us just hit a few glitches on the way.

Alas, I think my mutation is off ... I have trouble single-tasking! Too bad, or I could take over the world! :D

We dealt with this same issue in my son's school...But, do to my persistance and b*tch*ing they finally had him tested...Low and behold much to their surprise they were boring the living day lights out of the boy :). Sometimes it is the parent's fault; but, only to the extent that they take NO for an answer...As I see it when God gave me these kids they came with an order; Be their softest touch and Loudest voice(luckily for them I"m quite vocal and I have big lungs lmbo).
