c/o Addults with ADHD NSW ( thankyou for your ongoing advocacy!!! especially Joy ;) )

We thought that members might want to know that the next Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) meeting is to consider adding a medicine called Lisdexamfetamine (brand name Vyvanse) onto the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for children 6 to 18 years diagnosed with ADHD.

ADDults with ADHD does not support or recommend any particular medicine, and certainly not any brand of medicine. It recommends that people discuss the use of medicine for ADHD with a medical practitioner.

However ADDults with ADHD keeps a watching brief on available medicines and those medicines that are available on the PBS. As with some other lifelong conditions many families dealing with ADHD find medication a huge financial burden. Listing medication on the PBS can provide some important relief to those families. Listing on the PBS increases access to treatment options which might otherwise be avoided because of the cost.

As it does before all of its meetings the PBAC welcomes submissions from the health professionals, health consumer organisations, patients and their carers' and members of the public.

You can make a submission online. Here is the website link:

Submissions are being taken at the moment until 11 June 2014.

Here is a link to the agenda of the July 2014 meeting. (http://www.pbs.gov.au/info/industry/listing/elements/pbac-meetings/agenda/07-2014)
