Okay, my life is being overrun by piles and piles of stuff that just builds and builds. I can't seem to ever get anything to a decent level of order so that I can actually have people over! It affects me constantly because I have so much to do and I feel like I can't think around all of this stuff. It's so distracting. My car is almost like a storage facility too.
I guess my question is this: How do you start, and FINISH taking down huge amounts of clutter and stuff like this. I take care of the trash, then clothes, but eventually I just crap out after that because I feel like I'm just transferring piles around and there's ALWAYS something more interesting to do.
Should I be thinking about getting rid of everything I absolutely don't need? How have others with SEVERE clutter gotten over the hump?
flylady.net is saving my life and sanity. I live with what I term "drop and go" people. It's come to an end with the help of becoming a flyguy.
I went into the city last night for a little "flyfest" and it was lots of fun. I was the only guy there so that was pretty cool too. :P Now watch Viktoria take a cheap shot at me.. :D
It seems silly at first but it breaks it all down into bite sized pieces and it is working for me where many other systems have not. Part of how it works is to keep it all light and fun. My family is enjoying life at home a lot more these days.
So am I.

Not ADD but I do love clutter, or so it SEEMS.
Usually, my cleanups occur because I am expecting a guest...so sometimes I do that knowingly....
Otherwise, I guess the only thing that inspires me is throwing out things, which can be fun, and I got a little shredder which I love.
Go for it!
I just checked out flylady.net. It looks like a great website and I am all for it if it will help me get organized.

Okay, I had the same problem. I told this to my psych and she gave me a good suggestion. Put each category in individual laundry baskets...for instance, the clothes. the books, what ever those are for you... She put them in the closet and did a little at a time putting things away. When I see every thing out it is overwhelming and i give up.
If I am watching TV and a commercial comes on I go do a couple things till the commercial is over. For instance I will do the dishes or pick up the book and put them on the self.
I believe Ian mentioned www.flylady.net (http://www.flylady.net) she is awsome. I saw her book in the bookstore the other day ...I want to get it when i have the money. Hope this helps.

You won't believe this, but Andrei says he joined Flylady and received no emails in over 2 weeks:confused: . He found all 2 dozen of them today in a forgotten Yahoo account.
BUT, no cheap shot at you :D . I'm too busy trying to find a scary flash for you. ;)
Ian, you are far too organized, but I'm happy your family are enjoying the rewards. ;)

Thanks a lot for the replies.
I looked at flylady.net, and I like a lot of the tips available. I'm trying some of them.
Right now I think my major issue is that I get bored with material objects. I just don't find maintaining STUFF at all interesting. I love space, but at the same time I hate creating it. So given some recent advice, I think it's time to sell, throw away, or give away everything I absolutely don't need. This is the biggest hurdle. One of the things that I think is helping me to think about it is to know that if things are building up into piles, then it probably isn't important to me or I don't need it. I need to think about my daily needs and evaluate my possesions based upon that.
From there, I think I'm going to go nuts with office supplies and organization equipment. The tackle-one-pile-a-day strategy looks promising.
But this is all fine and dandy just talking about it. I'll let you know if I can actually break free.
Thanks for the help.
