Hi there,
I am completely new to this forum, and I am glad to be here. I really need alot of support right now. I started taking adderall about a year ago and immediately began to abuse it. I don't feel strong enough to get off of this drug. I do have a prescription, but tend to run out before the next refill. I just feel that the abuse of this drug will lead to abuse of other things. I am scared to death of the withdrawls, because I have experienced them and don't do well. I am really concerned about the long term effects of this drug on my body as well. I am full of shame and guilt.
Does anyone have any advice? Or can someone relate?
I would appreciate any feedback given...Thank you!

This is just my opinion:
Addiction is like the an "illness" and what someone chooses to abuse is like a symptom. I am an alcoholic. I like to think I have the disease of addiction with alcohol abuse as my symptom. Being addicted to one thing doesnt always mean you will abuse everything, although it is quite common for their to be some overlap when it comes to abusing multiple substances. I really advise you to seek counseling with an addictions specialist, someone who can walk you through the steps and side effects of abstinence. When you say withdrawals, what do you mean? Adderall is out of your system in a few days so what are you experiencing that makes you afraid of withdrawals? Do you have adhd? What does the doctor prescribe the adderall for?>

From what I've read regular amphetamine abuse at very high doses can cause withdrawal symptoms but this is at doses substantially higher than therapeutic doses. Have you tried reducing your dose gradually? Have you experienced any withdrawal effects?
