I do not know where exactly is a good place to put this, but I really thought it should be posted. I was quite alarmed when I learned this can happen.

You need to be aware of this!!!!!! The Google web site has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's listed telephone number into a search bar and obtain the that person's address. Then by clicking on the Google Map or the Mapquest button provided below the address, you can get a map to that person's house.

I tested this by typing my telephone number at the web site's Search bar: www.google.com (http://www.google.com/) and got our address and the "map buttons". Can you imagine the potential of this for all those evil folks out there just looking for opportunities? The safety issues are obvious and alarming. However, you can have your phone number removed or blocked

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com (http://www.google.com/). Type your listed phone number in the Search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and press Enter. If your number is unlisted you should not get your address and the "map" Buttons. However, if you do, press one of the "map" buttons to see if a map to your house comes up. In order to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simple click on your phone number. Removal takes 48 hours, so wait a couple of days before testing again.

I just wanted to share this information with all of you!!

This isn't new. You're able to search many reverse-lookup directories by phone number, and get address/contact information.

One more reason to have your phone number unlisted.

I was not fully aware of this until now. I do agree about having your phone number un-listed though!

It's easy to gain information on people if you have their phone number or address. Cell phones are alittle harder to locate people with because the cell phone companies protect their users. :(
