I was wondering if anyone else is effected by the full moon?

I can tell if it's a full moon coming up without even looking in the sky by the way my 12 year old son acts. He's adhd, alongwith with my daughter and myself. My husband is add. (aka "Never a dull moment in our house"...)

It seems that he gets pre and post full moon syndrome. For years, he's more hyper than usual (if that is possible) and I can almost count on a call from his school regarding his behavior. (You'd think I would have blocked their number by now.)

Right after the last full moon, which was March 25, I went for his parent/teacher meeting. The teacher commented on his behavior the last few days. I mentioned the full moon and how he usually gets like that prior to a full moon, during and a little after. She had never heard of a full moon affecting kids. She said that she would check it out the next full moon. I sent her a calendar that shows all of the upcoming full moons for 2005.

I commented that at work, we can always tell when it's a full moon because the nuts come out of the woodwork. Customers are crazy.

I have heard that hospital emergency rooms notice a rise in patients during full moons also.

Below is the calendar from 2004 and 2005. If I were to check when my son was in detention or suspended, I could guarantee it was on or around a full moon.

Sundays: Always in a thoughtful, quiet or just plain bad mood.
I've always warned the wife that it's my day to be Cave Boy.

Fall: I love change at this time. I could handle any change in my life if it happened in September and October. Beats me why - I'll start trouble just to get it.

Full moons: I get in a very playful mood and end up being an smiling, unstoppable juggernaut at everything I do. Needless to say my wife avoids me at this time because even playing Monopoly becomes an epic tale of betrayal, intrigue and imitations of the little banker.

Food for thought a full moon effects the ocean's tide so why would it/ how could it not affect our own bodies which are mostly water? (Sorry, I've forgotten the exact ratio).

I work in a nursing home and have no clue whether my patients are ADD or not but can tell you that a full moon spells...REQUESTED DAY OFF for me. :D And when I'm lucky enough to be denied a day off I guarantee you I'm going to see increased behaviours from physical violence, sexual advances (trust me a 500 pnd woman in a size 2 speedo looks good to a 90 year old, half blind and deaf bloke ;) ). We are actually double staffed during full moons so we can keep up with the call light volume, complaints of phantum chest pains, abnormal demands, etc.

My first experiance with a full moon was the day after the birth of my son. I noticed that I and my son were the only patients in the maternity wing that day and asked why there were so many nurse's on the floor...the charge nurse just shook her head and said "full moon"...ummm ok thanks for the explanation...I got my answer that night when within 7 hours when my son and myself were moved to another ward to make room for the new comers...talk about a rush!!!

Thanks for the chart though I do believe this is going to be kind of fun keeping track of our behaviours for the next few months and I now know what days to ask OFF!!!! :D

While working in an alternative school we actually could chart not only the full moons but also the weather fronts. When a front was headed in we saw an increase of agression, when the front hit we had about an hour of calm then on the backside of the front the kids became sleepy.

Interesting. I personally do feel more restless during a full moon, ditto for weather changes. A high-pressure system moving in seems to get me going. There is usually a brief period in fall, usually right around Nov 1st, when I get extremely hyper (for me, at least) when I feel almost euphoric, need very little sleep, very productive, and I notice myself talking faster (I have a pronounced Texas drawl/twang, so "fast" for me might be normal for everyone else:-). Sometimes I experience the same thing in late winter.

I often wonder if it has to do with allergies. I'm in N. Central TX (forgot, that's in my signature) and that brief period is probably the only time there's very little pollen in the air, as ragweed gives way to mountain cedar. Or, maybe changes in daylight.

I have the full moon calendar website (there are several out there) as one of my favorites both on my home and my work computer. I swear by it. My son has gotten away with so much **** in his 12 years because we chaulked it up to the full moon. Seriously. When we see the moon is almost full, we just kind of let him do his own thing and stay out of his way.

Nucking Futs gave a wonderful idea that I never even thought of. I will start scheduling days off according to the full moon calendar. (Now why didn't I think of that?)

That just gave me another idea. (there's that adhd again)

On Monday, I am going to check the vacation schedules at work and see if the full moon days are already filled up. Wouldn't that be funny if everybody else already takes the day off because of all the crazy things that seem to occur during full moons?

I am relieved that others are effected too by full moons. We always joke that we are vampires and werewolves and as a family, we jokingly howl at the moon. At least I think we are joking...now I am beginning to second guess myself. Maybe we are werewolves. Is howling at the moon a classic symptom of add/adhd?

My son in 1st grade uses a daily planner for assignments. The teacher also uses it to mark the behavior of the student for each day. If they misbehave the teacher marks in the comments section that the student was "below the line".

Well, I went back through the past school year to see if any of the "below the line" days matched the full moon dates. Here is what I found :

Full Moon Day - "Below the Line Day(s)"

2004 Sep 28 --- Sept. 20 & 24
2004 Oct 28 --- Oct. 21 & 26
2004 Nov 26 --- Nov. 22
2004 Dec 26 --- Dec. 14
2005 Jan 25 --- Jan. 27
2005 Feb 24 --- None
2005 Mar 25 --- Mar. 22

He only had one other "below the line" that didn't fit close to a full moon. The rest of the days were "above the line".

Very interesting trends. :eyebrow:

I just noticed that on my last post, I mentioned that I was going to check the vacation schedules at work on Monday and see if the full moon days are already filled up.

Well, being the adhder that I am, I forgot until reading this. I am going to leave myself a voice message for me to hear tomorrow morning as a reminder. (If I don't forget to leave myself a voice message for me to hear tomorrow morning as a reminder....)

Sorry, math major mode:

Take a look at what you've written here. I don't see any such correlation. In one case, you listed Dec 26 / Dec 14 as a "full moon/bad behavior" day. Similarly with Sept 28 / 20 and October 21 / 28. Each of these pairs has at least 7 full days between the behavior and the full moon. Well, statistically, about 1/2 of all the days in a month are within a week of a full moon, so this is no surprise at all!

When you take the remaining 6 of the original 8 data points, a similar thing happens. All have at least 4 days separation between the event and the full moon, which we would expect to happen 25% of the time. Sheer random luck almost certainly accounts for 4 or 5 of these days. Just based on what you've written, I'm willing to bet that your son has had about 14-17 "below the line" days, since you seemed to only list ones that seemed to correlate with the full moon. :D

This is just a case of people finding patterns where none really exist. If you could find a large scale effect involving hundreds of first-graders, and provide a proper statistical analysis, I might buy it. :D

Good points. :)

These are the only times my son has had a "below the line" day. There was only one other day that I did not list. So about 9 total days that were "below the line".

I also picked up on the 4 day separation thing.:)

For all you werewolves out there that howl at the moon, it shows this Sunday April 24 as a full moon.

If you have never noticed whether the full moon effects your family or co-workers, be aware this week. We have pre-full moon syndrome (before), during, and post (after).

As several of the posts indicated, some people are affected. Others are not. The facts have not been proven. But all I know is that I give my son a little extra leaway and I guarantee the nuts will be calling in all weekend at work. Good thing I am off Saturday and Sunday.

Also, the farmers almanac says that if you get your hair trimmed on a full moon, it grows faster. I'll be getting a little trim as I want it to grow a few more inches.

I'm sticking with the full moon theory--atleast in our wacky family.

Yesterday my 14 year old daughter, who attends a catholic grade school and just got "gold honor roll" (which is higher than regular honor roll and higher than silver honor roll), brought home a note from the principal.

It turns out that 13 kids in the 8th grade decided to play a game of "pants-ing." (Is that even a word? It doesn't look right.) Anyway, both the boys and the girls would take turns pulling down each others uniform shorts. Of course a teacher caught one of the boys doing that. He was going to be suspended but the other 12 kids came forward and said they were involved too. This saved him for suspension but all of them had to bring home a note and get it signed. Plus they have to spend both their recess and lunch periods in their classrooms quietly for 2 weeks. The incident will not be in their record. My daughter did not pants anyone nor was she pants'ed but she was playing the game prior to the teacher coming.

As a reminder, Sunday is the next full moon.

AND THEN TODAY-----

I get a call from my 12 year old sons school. It is him telling me that he got into a fight. He told me a little about what happened and I asked to speak with the resource teacher. I told her that he has been having major issues for the past 2 weeks with kids calling him names such as gay or faggot. I thought that this is what caused the fight and she said she'd look into it.

About an hour later, once school let out, I got a voice message from the weasle assistant principal telling me that it involved my son and another kid taking out the recycleable container and an altercation occurred resulting in kicking and pushing. He said that he was reviewing the information and would let me know before 12 noon tomorrow what his decision is going to be. I DON'T THINK SO!!!! First he is going to read the long detailed note that I am going to write asking where the teachers were when all this nonsense occurred in this special educaiton classroom. Details on this saga to follow.

I feel like I am on the Wizard of Oz walking in the dark forrest saying over and over again: "I DO BELIEVE IN FULL MOONS. I DO BELIEVE IN FULL MOONS. I DO BELIEVE IN FULL MOONS."

Tack another "below the line" yesterday. This must be one nasty full moon coming. :)

I feel for my son. He is such a good boy and would never want to do anything to upset or harm others. If I look back at my school history, the end of 1st and all of 2nd was when I remember the ADD symptoms starting. It's like he can not sit still. Like he is trying to crawl out of his own skin.

I also heard the crime increases around and during the full moon. Any studies on this?

(crosses fingers in hopes of not getting a warning/banned for saying this)
I definitely feel the effects of a full moon and notice that people who come into where I work are unpredictable and sometimes act downright crazy. ALWAYS someone I work with (usually several someones) will say "Is it a full moon or is everyone just crazy today?" or "These people are driving me absolutely crazy today. Is it a full moon or something" They always say this within usually a four to six hour window BEFORE the exact "full moon" occurs.
I study astrology and just watch how people act during different transits and it's not my imagination that there seems to be a sort of electricity in the air during these times...well I'm referring to full moon times being air electric that is.

I apologize if my mentioning astrology is offensive to anyone and don't intent to start a discussion of it...(not appropriate here as far as I can tell anyway). It's just that I couldn't keep quiet about this.

Just for the record, the coming full moon will be at 6:06AM this April 24 2005 Eastern time. It may be a minute or two different for people who live in the east but not as close to Delaware.
Because of the time it occurs, it might be easier to study the next one on May 23, 2005 at 4:17PM EDT. Now the trick is for all of us ADDers including me to actually remember this post and pay attention during that time to see how it affect people.

Yeah, I probably won't remember either....hehe

I will definitely remember and will give everyone a one to two week notice. I have the full moon calendar saved as one of my favorites plus it's written on my calendar. Not that I need that though. My family is definitely effected by it and there is no way I will ever be able to not know there's a full moon.

If you didn't have a chance to read my post called "the saga from the last 24 hours", my son was in ISS (in school suspension) yesterday and today. Plus while in ISS today, I still received a call from the assistant principal telling me that he was in trouble yet again for shooting a rubberband. The teacher thought he was shooting it at one of the other ISS kids. But he told me that he was just shooting it through the air as to "not bother anyone and interrupt the ISS class".

Also, I am thinking about putting out a survey on all ADD/ADHDers with the name of Tim (my son's name.) There is definitely something in that name. (If I knew then what I know now, he would have been a George or something.)

I have been reading the book Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by Christiane Northrup and she states that women that the first half of a womans cycle is a good time to start new projects. The second half of the cycle we turn more inward and keep to are selves . I keep more to myself self at the time. I remembering my sister when we were teenagers doing this and I felt rejected she liked her privacy. But it was the womans cycle. Just think about it how do you act. Check this book out I think all women should have a copy of this book and her one on Menopause.

Sorry guys dont know much how the moon affects you. Or if that is the time you men like ot retreat to the cave. I am reading the book Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus by John Gray. He talks about in the first couple chapters that when men have a problem they would rather be alone. That they call this retreating to their cave. Also, that when I woman has a problem a her hubby or b/f try to solve the problem instantly for her. Men us woman like to vent are problems and talk to other woman about them. It helps relieve the stress in our lives. I am still reading the book. I wish I knew this information years ago, nah it wouldnt have help with my relationship he had too many problems. Anyways, learn to listen to us with out tryin to solve the problem Okay.

I also read that Women yes us women are the mother figures. We have a natural instict to nurture. I have to remember to be a different person when I am in a relationship than when I am working with the children at in the daycare or school system. I can remember William who I use to be...he would say you dont have to talk to me like you do one of the kids. I took it very offensively but I see what he is saying now. Women are just born to nurture not all women but the majority. Well that is my 2 cents.

oh by the way my mom would ask me Is it your time of the month? She could always tell because of the change in my moods and moods.

I survived another full moon with my add/adhd family. I just climbed out of my cave. I've decided to hide during full moons because anything could happen.

This past one was extremely stressful three days leading up to the full moon. We definitely have "pre-full moon syndrome".

Yesterday wasn't bad. My son woke up around 930am. Took his meds, ate breakfast, got dressed, acted bored cause there was nothing to do. (too windy to go motorcycle riding.) He layed down and took a nap til about 2pm. (We NEVER wake him when he's sleeping.)

My daughter had a friend over this weekend. They woke up around 1030am. Ate. Played video games. Played on the computer. Never got dressed. Both fell back to sleep.

My husband got up around 730am. Got dressed. Fell back to sleep on the couch until 930am. Messed around for a while in the yard and the garage. He also feel asleep around 3pm for a nap.

My son and I walked to my mom and dads house with 2 of our dogs around 3pm.

It seemed like a wonderful quiet sleepy day.

When I got home, all **** broke loose, atleast for me. My husband complained about something. My daughter waited until Sunday night to tell me she needed a disposal camera to take pictures of herself on Monday to turn in for 8th grade yearbook on Tuesday. (Like she had the whole frickin sunny weekend for this!) I had to run to the grocery store for mostaccioli noodles because nobody wanted to spaghetti noodles. (what's the frickin difference.) I had to buy dog food, which I had to carry in the house. (22 lbs) I had to buy a disposable camera which I will have to turn in today and pay for an hour processing.

I felt real wheepy. I don't sleep that great during full moons (hyper, full of energy) so I have been a little sleep deprived the past few days. I took a tranxene for stress (which I have only taken one of since starting Adderall March 18. I mellowed out and went to bed about 9pm.)

It can only get better. I think I will go back into my cave just in case.

I love it... I've always felt the full moons effects, it makes me "bumbbully" bubbly headed and bumping into things. And it's the weirdest since I had surgery last year that has really thrown me for a loop, I just mentioned to a friend, how I noticed the last several months it's been happening on a new moon.
I do feel theres a connections between the mother earth and the currents in the air and our heads.
I get shocks sometimes I never paid attention to the weather when it happens...

I have worked in nursing homes and it did seem to get busier when the moon is full. Even though I haven't been in the health care profession I still get a little anxious when I see the moon is full then I relax because I don't work in nursing any more. Spouse has consistent ADHD I think the only thing that would effect his ADHD would be a 2x4 or large fast moving truck. Will have to check out the monthly cycle moon thing corleation thing!!!!

If the full moon effects you or anyone in your household, I'll be listening for howling Monday coming from the Texas area :)

When I was in college, I worked in a vending company. I made service calls for pool tables and jukeboxes in bars all over the region. I can safely say that I was known in every bar in town and never touched a drink. :p

The most dreaded night for us at work was the Friday closest to the full moon. If it was a Friday AND a full moon, you knew it was going to be one carazy night.

Me.

Just an FYI, June 22 (next week) is the next full moon.

It isn't so bad when school is out. But when school is in session, watch out. :)

In case you didn't notice, yesterday (Thursday) was a full moon.

At work it was more hectic and crazy than usual. Everybody wanted everything then and there, their way.

I came home and immediately jumped in the pool. I floated on an inner tube for what seemed like hours. When I was ready to get out, I realized I had my sunglasses on even though it was almost dark out. I didn't want to deal with any more full moon people.

I was awake all night, tossing and turning. I got up several times to go to the bathroom and grab a piece of cookie dough (I'm PMSing).

Did anyone else have a day like this?

Now here's a sign I'm a new man on my meds LOL. I'm a skeptic FYI. That means I need pretty good proof of something before I back it - that includes lunar cycles attached to human behavior. I don't have anything pro it but your anecdotal experiences - but I thought for everyone in here you might want to see http://skepdic.com/fullmoon.html to see where there have been serious studies to see if there is a correlation there.

I'll leave it at that. I prefer to believe we are free beings (except for our chemistry dangit) and that the moon and stars don't give a hoot what we do or don't do.

There may not be any scientific proof but all I know is that today has been so frickin hectic, everybody on edge, nothing going right, crazy out of this world and tomorrow is a full moon.

We have "pre full moon syndrome" in our family. Kind of like "pms". Once the full moon is here, we're OK. But leading up to it...watch out.

I hope I don't get a call from my son's school. He's only been back in school since Monday and we are all a roll.

Things have been hectic for me, too, recently, but that's more because of moving into a new apartment and getting ready to start classes at a new school. :P

OK, so at 1:30pm today I get a call from my son's resource teacher at school telling me that he was sent to the office earlier because he and another student kept calling each other names. The teacher gave my son several opportunities to stop. He went out in the hallway to cool down and when he came back in, he started up again. She told him to go to the office and while walking out the door, he hit the door with his hand.

She walked him to the office and on the way they talked about choices and what he should have done instead. He then talked to the assistant principal and was eventually allowed back to class.

When I got home from work, I had less than an hour to get ready to go work a booth at our church carnival. My son was in "a mood" and it was a horrible hour prior to leaving. He said. She said. He yelled. I yelled. Everybody hated each other and then the next thing we knew, we were all on our way to the carnival as a loving family.

At the carnival, it was crazy. Little pockets of teenagers everywhere. Several little cat fight type quarrels. One girl crying because this boy wouldn't take her to the homecoming dance. Some other girl called my niece a ****. You name it, it happened.

Today was so chaotic and the full moon isn't until tomorrow.

We are definitely a "pre full moon syndrome family".

so wow. someone I know recently had the same horrible thing happen to them. Once on the last full moon. and once on the summer equinox. Can you guys tell me the theory on this stuff? Is it the gravitational pill I mean pull of the moon or are you impling PMS. Because this is a male I am talking about.

thanks

The gal at my Walmart phamacy warned me that my speed script would talk a while. I told her as long as its before the next full moon I'm cool.

She didn't laugh.

Freaking normals. No sense of humor.

The next one is this upcoming Tuesday, July 11th, LOL !

Maybe she actually knew when it would occur...and thought 'no way in hades this is going to be ready by then'...

But then again...I doubt it...she prolly didn't have a sense of humor !

Nova,

I am so glad that there is a least one soul in the universe that really understands how bonkers I really am.

Thanks so much :D

Yeah...right...
I'm not buying that you're 'bonkers', Bob. (0:

I am the one who knows all about the 'moon' cycles, remember ?
LMAO !

To some, who don't know anythign about it, or know me well- that might be considered 'bonkers'.

Full moon might officially be on Tuesday, but I'm looking at it from my window..ahhh, let me shut the verticals.

SHDD (sense of humor deficit disorder) is real and affects many normals.

In our add/adhd family, we have pre-full moon syndrome, full moon syndrome and post full moon syndrome.

Yesterday (pre-full moon) was a little hectic and argumentative around our house. We'll see how it goes today.

KEEP ON HOWLIN'

Well...today's the day. It's the full moon.

Yesteday's pre-full moon was horrible at work and at home. At work, half of our phone system went down for the entire day. At home, my son was very moody and had a big chip on his shoulder. (Even more than usual.)

My sister called me and said that everybody at her work was nuts yesterday. Plus, on her way home from work, everybody was driving like maniacs.

Maybe I will crawl back in bed and not go to work today. :)

I always hit the rarely seen outward, hyper side when it's a full moon! Great for the slough type ADDer's ! I get alot done...am a little on the kooky side..but none the less I'm moving!
