I have a question in regards to some research I located when I saw that Adderall had been suspended in Canada (I feel it is a fluke, but I researched just for informations sake). Maybe others can shed light on this.
Supposedly, L-Amphetamine which is a constituent of Adderall has little psychological effect. It does have cardiovascular and pulmonary effects though. The other D-Amphetamines in the drug also effect the heart and blood vessels, which is obvious.
Doing some reading, supposedly Desoxyn exhibits the psychological benefits that adderall offers, but it has far less of a physical effect (organs, heart, etc.) with exception to the serotonergic neurons in the brain where it is more detrimental, but we are speaking of therapeutic doses.
It is not often prescribed anymore, but does anyone know if this information is true?

I've never been able to find anything that differentiates amphetamines with regards to how they work or what they may do differently - no info of a research nature or anything credable.
If you live in Canada, dexedrine is about the only other product similar to Adderall that you can get. Desoxyn is not available in Ontario and I'll bet it's not available in other parts of Canada as well.
I don't think methamphetamine is any more effective or better or stronger than other amphetamine products. It's a bit different, so it may help some people that other medications fail to help.
Because of the stigma associated with it due to it's illegal manufacture, it is hard to get prescribed, hard to find, and very expensive.

Meth-amp is a more reactive compound than dex and I understand , gives a bigger hit, faster than dex when used illegally in large doses. Meth does partially metabolize (breakdown) in the body to dexamphetamine and presence of dex in the bloodstream is an indicator that methamphetamine may have been used or is still present. My understanding is that both are tested for an indication of illegal meth usage by some USA law enforcement agencies.
Amphetamines of any type should be used with great caution under your doctors supervision. My understanding is that some countries demand that any person on stimulant medication, must undergo a compulsory heart trace (EEG) every 12 months to monitor for any possible heart irregularities that would rule out the usage of stimulants. In any event, a regular heart checkup is a very wise policy if your on stimulant medication.
