Hi,
I recently went to the DR and explained that I suck at life. I suck at organising anything, my kids go to school without there teeth brushed sometimes, theres half done jobs EVERYWHERE in my house. I forget everything, theres a running joke in my family that if you want something lost give it to me. Ive changed my path of study about 20 times, completely enthusiastic about something to only lose interest a few days later. I've tried every sport under the sun. tried every diet/way of eating. Half read many books. i dont stick to ANYTHING! But what really brought me to the drs was as far back as i can remember i've LOVED learning, but for some reason i just cant learn. I remember being a kid and the start of every school year i would have all new books and stationary and i would promise my self that this would be the year id knuckle down and do well. But i just couldnt concentrate! But i love the thought of it, of learning something new and gaining knowledge. But i just cant do it!! I'm currently trying to study but i just cant, it goes in one ear out the other, or the lecturer talks and i just want them to shut up, they may as well be talking a different language.

But then i can also get obsessed about something, like now the dr has said i may be ADD i can spend hours googling it ect. So i seem to have concentration for some things?

Im also so impatient. like if i decide to do something i have to do it there and then. Ive rung the psychiatrist twice today to see if they have my referral. I need everything done RIGHT NOW. i HATE waiting!!!!!!!!

Anyway sorry for the ramble and if you have taken the time to read it all Thankyou.

Welcome to the community! You've found the ideal space to sort it all out in your own mind. May you enjoy your time here and find it helpful and supportive.

Make an appt with a specialist and think collectively about your symptoms over your lifetime. You will need to discuss this with the doctor.

Pulled few things out of your post: can't organize, half completed projects, forgetful, extremely impatient, hyper focused when interested in a topic. If these are frequently and seriously happening, have for quite awhile, and you've suffered for it, then, in my opinion, yep, welcome, been there done that, those, and more. all the best

You don't have A.D.D...

You are an entrepreneur. You need to multi-task make decisions. You are above your children's teeth.

You need to make split second decisions and have people working underneath you doing the dirty work.

YOU have the confidence of a ''mover and shaker". You need things yesterday...not now.

Please understand, people with ADD and ADHD are apprehensive, slow to succeed. We deal with failure and people holding us back. You don't seen to have that problem.

I would not say that yebwen9 doesn't have ADHD. It's quite possible. There is nothing in ADHD about failing. ADHD includes being unable to do certain things; "succeed" is not one of the things. :)

I agree with Sarah - take all this information, and all other information you have, to the doctor. You definitely want to find a doctor (psychiatrist, whatever) who knows ADHD - that can be the hard part. You must find the people in your area who know all about ADHD already. If you don't find them, you will probably be stonewalled.

To be frank, add is no longer the correct terminology.
It's now all considered ADHD, since there are only 4
Types, it makes it easier for your psychiatrist to narrow
Down. Here's hyperactive, inattentive, impulsive, and
Combined type which is all three.

See a specialist in the mental health field in your area,
As you posses traits many people with mental illness have,
But it could be ADHD or could be something else.

Definitely sounds like you should pay a visit to a psychiatrist specialized in ADHD. I have a lot of the same symptoms and I assume you probably have even more that you didn't include in your post (people often assume that the symptoms you list are the only ones you experience, and it's quite impossible to put into words how you are feeling and the things going on inside your mind).

Really difficult to judge whether a person has ADHD or not based on a single post, and you ought to remember that ADHD is different for everyone.

i'm unsure where you read that there are four types, but that's incorrect. there are three subtypes of adhd. the hyperactive and impulsive criteria are grouped together and if you meet those criteria and not the inattentive set, then it's adhd-h/i, meeting the inattentive and not the h/i criteria= adhd inattentive (or primarily inattentive) and, as you said, meeting both sets of criteria (h/i and inattentive) = adhd combined.

i do agree with you that the thread starter should seek professional input since many of the symptoms overlap with other mental health concerns and only a medical health professional can determine what's what.
