How many people here are interested in graphics and design, but do not have the money to purchase industry standard software such as Photoshop or Flash MX?
What programs does everyone currently use?
Yesterday,I remembered I had a program called Blender3d on one of my SuSE software discs,so installed it.
It's a fantastic program from the little messing about i've done with it up to now,it is used by some animation studios,it can be used to develop computer games to but for that the older version is needed:
http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Older_versions.283.0.html
The best thing about it is-it's not a trial/evaluation,it's purely open source and conveniently-it's free.
It can be downloaded from here:
http://www.blender3d.org
Minimum requirements:
System
Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP
Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3
Linux 2.2.5 i386
FreeBSD 5.3 i386
Irix 6.5 mips3
Solaris 2.8 sparc
Hardware
300 MHz CPU
128 MB Ram
20 MB free hard disk Space
1024 x 768 px Display with 16 bit color
3 Button Mouse
Open GL Graphics Card with 8 MB Ram
It needs a fair amount of memory and processor power despite what it says there,
especially if using with windows XP,that's if the user doesn't want to have to put up with lag.
I'm using two sticks of 512mbDDR sys.memory and an AMD64/2GHz processor and find it runs perfectly lag free.
Don't use it without looking at the manual first though,I forgot to install mine, and i've crashed the prog many times due to being too experimental with it. :D
Another program worth getting,if not already got-the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) the greatest opensource free graphics program,if wanting to experiment with design but only have ms paint or something else basic installed,
download the GIMP,it's close to photoshop, but isn't full of un needed options so it's easy enough to use for the domestic user.

^It is available for all formats,like blender3D.
