Please participate in this anonymous poll. It's heartbreaking to see ADDers come here on a frequent basis and post about their career horror stories.

It's been twice for me.

I honestly have never been fired from a job. I chose my jobs carefully, I gave them my all. I never called in sick, was never late and worked very, very hard. I never be-friended those I worked with and I basically had a five year rule. After 5 years I left.

It is extremely difficult to give all of yourself for a job longer than that. For me it is anyway. But I know I did the very best a boss could ever ask for.

I have also never worked an 8 hour day. It would be impossible for me to do so.

I've never been fired either, but that's because I would kick into survivor mode in my brain and quit before they had a chance to fire me and shame me even more than I already was.

I've quit quite a few places due to what would have certainly been a termination because I was unable to meet the demands after I thought I could, or had been able to demonstrate great ability for a while, then encountered great difficulty.

Being unemployed the last 3 years has been one of the worst times experienced in my life as far as external feelings of self-worth goes. People put a whole lot of weight in valuing others solely by employment status.

I was only fired once....but then again I have only had 3 "regular " jobs in my life. I have done a lot of short term work, and the decade or so I was doing Oversize load pilot car work, every job ended when the run was over.(100 miles to 2000 miles or so..) Even so I can look back and see some of the issued I had were not just me being lazy or dumb or easily offended, the ADHD was a part of every one.

I can't seem to work for myself (Usually automotive stuff or signs) at a pace that will make me money....so far. Now that I am aware of the adhd-pi part of me I hope that I can get better focused eventually and actually finish something.

None, but then I've been fortunate.

What an idiot I am! Apparently, only a couple people with ADD have been fired from their jobs.

It's Christmas -- a lot of people are offline.

For what it's worth, I've been fired.

ive had about 50 jobs, I only definitely remember being fired from 2, but am not sure so I did not do the poll.

Of the rest, I quit all except for one.

Twice for me that I can remember. At one I was literally carried off in cuffs by the police :o

I was fired from the first two jobs, when I was still in high school.

I've quit a couple of jobs. And some were only temporary work or closed business.

I was a stay-at-home-mom for many years and I'm mainly a stay-at-home-gramma now.

I work part time and was afraid of being fired a couple of times because my inattentiveness caused accidents and breakage.

But my boss appreciates that I've only missed two days in 10 years, once due to a death in the family and once due to a broken arm.

I kept working with the broken arm and the boss excused the fact that I didn't do as well as usual. ;)

I've never been fired only because I've quit before it happens. I've been written up on several jobs but interestingly, only after the crap hit the fan then I was diagnosed.

Never been fired. Probably because I know what jobs suit me and I am a hard/consistent worker. There are tons of times I could have been fired but never happened. Management types seem to like me.

I am thinking this is more the norm today with HR departments being afraid to be sued over a firing.

Maybe we needed another category for "I wasn't fired, because I quit first!"

My large truck escort job you could say I was fired every week a couple of times. -although I got rehired usually by the same guy... It was actually ideal for me because it was always different and nothing lasted too long. I could take a vacation any time I had money enough to do so. I quit because there was no money in it anymore and my truck was worn out.

Now that I am in a regular job, even though I am left alone all day, I am finding it tough many days to deal with the ADHD-PI symptoms. I'm sitting down at a computer most of the day and it gets tiring.

Nah, probably more like luck of the draw. Can say, never fired, but I have gotten close. Know what saved me? (least I can tell), was my past (busy busy, trying hard, honesty about days off/etc).. Not that I can say you were not any of those... But the other half, beyond the "past", at least the recent experience of being there on the edge (still there I think, to a certain extent) was attempting to address this condition/diagnosis for once and being lucky to have the company/management that seems to understand and be OK with me making progress on this. From what I can tell the very things that could make them want to fire me at times, are the very things that on the right days in right situations are what they value in me the most. (when I have the right amount of control over the random thoughts, it usually means I am ahead of the game in what they want and can actually remain quite calm and composed in situations stressing out others in the company).. Talk about luck so far I guess..

But possible lack of luck/understanding/right-place for you is not all on you.

I've never been fired, but I no call/no showed at two of them because of my symptoms and the state of mind I was in at the time. Not the smartest thing to do, but it's hard to think clearly when you have so many factors that seem to be working against you in that moment.

I've been fired three times which I think is alot. All the rest I either quit before they dropped the hammer or quit because I couldnt take it anymore.

Been fired about 4 times from jobs, the last one I told them they could stick it, slavery just in another guise.

But in the last situation I had a plan , I needed requisit experience in the particular field I am in now.
The concrete business, so far the drive hasn't worn off.

I'm not proud of my work history , I just couldn't lock on or got so insanely bored that I self emolatated.
I started researching everything, strengths, weaknesses opportunities and work places.

I guess it suits me a certain amount of pressure , money and the chance to drive around and daydream.
My significant people would constantly tell me how I sucked at work, they thought I would get the pension.
The way I deal with people is good and I don't get nervous when under pressure. But I do some planing on this.

I've only had one permanent position which I quit because it was a ****ty job. Too much stress, too much work, too much travelling and no opportunity to progress. And i wasnt very good at it. Now I'm just trying to hang on from contract to contract. I don't know how to get a permanent job.

I've never been fired. Just haven't had my contract extended at times. So I didn't vote.
