anything outside!!!!!!
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together?
probably a week??
motorbrain 05-08-05, 06:13 AM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others ?
Between Feb and the end of Sept, (Hey, the rest is duck hunting season!)
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone?
At dinner initially - then the next day a day doing a big ol bbq at a park. That would allow those that like to chatting over tossing a frisbee (or vice versa) the chance to do what they wanted.
3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room?
I'm good with either - but I prefer a hotel because I just ADORE hot showers in the morning.
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people?
I can get a bigger tent.
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing?
I don't mind - as long as they can put up with my snoring.
6. Do you have
a car ? if yes, can you pick up people along your way?
Sure - if the family doesn't come along.
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting?
Cooking, talking, eating and drinking if it's at a campground.
Talking, eating and drinking if it's not.
It would be fun for anyone that does art or anything to bring something that they can show others. We're supposed to be creative after all. :)
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together?
I think a couple of formal days would be great. And folks can extend their stay if they choose to.
Again if you have ideas , please share them with us. I am just trying to get something started so jump in !!!! :D
Might be fun to have a group problem solving session. Everyone write down a current issue in their life - 3 get pulled out of a hat and then we use the combined brain power of the group to help come up with solutions. It might get heated but it might help someone as well. It'd be a good exercise.
I like to cook but it's more fun to cook with others. If we camp out it would be great to have a SuperMarket dinner. We all choose what we want to eat go to the store, pick it up and cook it together.
I've always wanted to try this at my house but never have. Break up the group into small teams. Each team get an aisle at a grocery store.
Funds are limited to 5-10 bucks a person, each team goes down their aisle and buys what they think might be good to contribute to a dinner - without knowing what the other teams will buy. Then when all the teams reassemble you get to determine what you can make by combining what each team brought back. Sort of a hunter gatherer hodge podge idea.
If worse comes to worse we will all have a great time telling our grandkids about the time we "made do".
My .02,

What great ideas Motorbrain...i love them :)
Thank you so much .

witsend 05-08-05, 01:51 PM . The ideal time for you to meet others ? Next summer would be better financially than this summer--I hope.
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone? Somewhere centarally located. Doesn't really matter. I've only seem the wesrtern half of the states so I'm open to the other side, maybe I'll stop & see some friends & realitives.
3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room? Camping , not too primative though.
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people? No, My tent fits only my family . Doubt hubby will go though, he doesn't play well with others. Especially if he doesn't know them.
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing? Hotel is good too, I would share.
6. Do you have a car ? if yes, can you pick up people along your way?
I have a car, but if I drive I would have to buy a new car first. Mine would nevr make it in it's current condition. If that happens I could pick up a few on the way.
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting?
Any-Story telling, games, hiking, etc...
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together? Long weekend--3-4days tops.
fasttalkingmom 05-08-05, 08:07 PM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others ? ....Fall
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone?...have no idea
3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room? ..I do not camp... :D
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people?
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing? ..Own
6. Do you have a car ? ..yes and no extra room
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting? ... Not sure
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together? ... 2 days
Is this a serrious get together
Ill start planning the trip
we could allways have 2 or 3 in different areas of the 2 countrys at the same time
EYEFORGOT 05-08-05, 10:50 PM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others ? spring, summer, fall of '06(whenever hubby can get time off)
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone? mid-way and not too far south so that our Canadian ADDers can join us. Are the overseas members having a get together? Just thought we could share pics.
3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room? camping but not primitive, ya got cabins in Nebraska?
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people? I have no idea, we don't own a tent yet, but I thought that would be the most affordable choice
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing?
6. Do you have a car ? if yes, can you pick up people along your way? Depends. Are they very small and do they have to bring luggage?
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting?
eating, ever play apples to apples?, anything but duck hunting, but I like mb's other ideas.
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together? a few days
Again if you have ideas , please share them with us. I am just trying to get something started so jump in !!!
thanks for trying to do this. hope it works out.
KnittingJunkie 05-10-05, 03:48 PM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others ? This summer sounds hunky-dory.
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone? Basically the central US is a rockin' concept. Nebraska's fine. Iowa's good, too, because my lazy butt wouldn't have to drive as much ;). I just go on wild extensive car trips from time to time, though, (see #6) so whatever works is cool...
3. Do you prefer camping or hotel room? Don't care. If different potentially allergy-reaction-inducing plants are identified and I know the snakes indigenous to the region, I'm copacetic to camping.
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people? Haven't figured that part out yet.
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing? Probably going to want my own room. Dunno yet.
6. Do you have a car ? if yes, can you pick up people along your way?
Have a car, unsure about picking people up, it'd depend where they were and where I was.
For example, I visit Arkansas every summer. If it was to be held during the summer and it's up in Nebraska or Iowa, and I was on my visit to Arkansas, (unsure of when that's going to be as of yet, don't really plan it ahead of time--just call my friends and go when opportunity knocks) I could drive further down to LA perhaps and swing by for Mel (Draga) 'cause I'm already way down in the south anyway. (Am I making any sense at all?)
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting? Anything that doesn't involve intense amounts of exercise or healthiness. That wouldn't be a vacation to me. I want to lay on the ground drinking Dr. Pepper, eating--hell, chocolate chip Pop-Tarts, perhaps--having a cigarette now and again (though if we're inside I'll get off my butt and go outside to smoke ;) )
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together? A weekend's worth of time (2-3 days) sounds fine.
I'm rather flexible...like MB's ideas for fun stuff but I get enough snoring at home, so I won't be sleepin' there!
ok so i think with all the ones that did speak out...2006 will be the year of the get together..
During the summer also...Please answer these question if you are thinking of meeting others so we get a large idea of what people want , and ideas on what to do ect..
Thank you. :)
Gourmet 05-13-05, 10:32 AM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others ? .... any warmish month
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone?...somewhere in the middle
3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room? camping = black and white TV...EVERY
time I've EVER been camping, it rains. Every time it rains it "messes up my narually girlie hair"
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people? N/A or no..tent for two
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing? ..Own or room with fasttalking
mom if she'll have me.....Paula share (in whiney voice)
6. Do you have a car ? ..yes....coming from south coast en route to who knows where...or I could ride with Paula if she will have me...Paula share (whiney voice again)
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting? ... Game for
anything...as long as Paula will share
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together? ...

Caine7478 05-14-05, 11:44 PM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others ? middle Summer to late summer
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone? Anywhere is fine with me. Since I am an alien I can beam anyplace on the earth in seconds, and traveling for a different galaxy is not a problem since I have a hyper drive
3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room? I love to camp
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people? I can share space in my tent if they like to snuggle :)
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing?
6. Do you have a car ? if yes, can you pick up people along your way? I have a van and can pick up a few others on the way there. But beware I can talk a person's ear off.
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting? playing washers and horse shoes.
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together? three days
Everyone who are almost sure of meeting this summer at Ian's
Please raise you right hand...:)
If i can arrange to have a week off, i will go. Because my dear Ian , you live about 30 hours from poor little moi. So i need atleast 4 days off just for the travellingggggggggggg..
What is the nearest big city or town that will actually appear on a map  near you ?
There is no way you could fly? Take the bus at the very least and let someone else drive. I've been that drive and it's an ugly one. Are you bringing kids? What if they sacrifice you to the gods of penned kids in hot summer cars? :D
As people need to know where we'll meet you all can just drop me a pm and we'll get a map happening.
I should plan to be away that weekend right? hhehe
Cheers! Ian.
No way LOL...i aint that evil you know  :p :)
If i drive i take the kiddies for sure. I actually been down that road a few times myself, but continued all the way to B.C..

We are an hour south of Winnipeg down Hwy #59. "St. Malo" is a small town just north of us about ten minutes.
I should plan to be away that weekend right? hheheh
Cheers! Ian.
Ok then you are certified insane. We'll see you when you get here. heheh I think people should plan to arrive sometime on the Friday and head out again on Sunday or Monday.
EYEFORGOT 05-15-05, 02:17 PM right hand raised. (but for 2006, we may be moving out of state 2005, so we can't take a vacation out of state)
can I help feed the chickens? (yes, that is my idea of a fun vacation activity)
EYEFORGOT 05-15-05, 02:50 PM not really. do you like the smell of deet?
fasttalkingmom 05-15-05, 03:32 PM I wondered if anyone one the EastCoast would want to plan a Get together.
I was thinking Six Flags NewEngland as a fun way to meet up......
Just an idea.
The other plans are so very much out of my league due to time money and distance. I thought maybe others might be wanting to join the meet up but have the same issues as me.
Chel I do love the smell of deet when my life is at stake. ehh Although this year I'm going to play more with fabric softener strips more. I'm also going to lose my banana habit. Both those measures are supposed to help. It never got warm enough last year for the little critters to gain a foothold.

fast - Just don't forget to take some pictures to share with us all! :) I think small meets would be a great idea. Way more practical than big ones far away.
Cheers!
EYEFORGOT 05-15-05, 11:29 PM Fabric softener strips and eliminating bananas? You lost me. They didn't teach me this at Girl Scout Camp.
I got this in an email last week. Thought I'd check some of them out given I have to run (read: addicted) and I don't want deet all over my open pores.
Cheers!

KnittingJunkie 05-16-05, 04:41 PM I have my right hand raised 3/4 of the way. Yesterday one of my best friends from AR called and told me her brother eloped, and that they were having a party for the happy couple during Memorial Day weekend. So I said I'd head down there. I will be taking Sam w/ me.
As for whether I'd be taking Sam to Canada...well, he heard his father and I talking about it, and I said, "Probably, you'll come with me, sweetie, probably, but I don't know."
Now I'm regretting the "Probably." "Probably" to my kid sounds like "Heck, yeah." It might be easier to leave him, though then I'd be coming all by my lonesome.
My husband's like "Hey, if something goes wrong, don't call me, I ain't comin' to get ya, but for the record, I don't think it's a great idea..." (He means, you know, if I get stranded somewhere, or if y'all were to chop me up and barbecue me or something. ;) Such chivalry.)
Plus I don't have a tent--well, I do, but it's enormous and I don't know how to put it up.
My husband isn't going. (Trust me, this is good--he hates Canada, and if he's somewhere he doesn't like, he will b**** and moan like nobody's business. You would benefit from his absence.)
I want to go, but I have a few kinks to work out. I can get there, that's for sure, there's not a car/money issue. It's the details.
Chrys
Let us know if there is something you think we can help with. I looked into maybe getting access to a little cottage that a bunch might use. But we'll see how that goes. I'd rather not take chances with other peoples property if we don't have to.
Come on people lets hear for the ones that wants to meet this summer.....
Lets get one get together at the darnit time....
Come on speak now or for ever hold you breath heeheh...joking

how'd i miss this bit of news??? yowzers!
i was in when we were talking about 2006 (or i like to think i was, it was a possibility, anyway)-- and though i'd *love* to come see ian, et. al., we've already got our family vacation planned for the summer of 2005.
i love looking at ian's pics of the great plains. i lived on the prairie myself (in a little house -- no lie! ), and a wave of nostalgia hits every time i see pics of ian's backyard. so, take lots of pictures!!!
ya'll have a great time without me. :(

aneededchange 05-22-05, 12:31 PM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others ?
I am not completely certain - I should be going back to school shorty ... I will get back to you on that.
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone?
I guess some agreed upon area that serves as middle ground.
3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room?
I don't mind either actually. I camp in style though ... since I have been known to camp for 2 weeks at a time. :D
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people?
Possibly - but I am not gonna take in any snoring people ... I don't like my talking in my sleep deal to be competed with.
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing?
Don't ask me why - but I don't want to share a room.
6. Do you have a car ? if yes, can you pick up people along your way?
Maybe - but please don't count on me to get there on time. I get lost very easily and my vision is not all that grand these days.
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting?
Wow - I hadn't really thought of that. *ponders* There are tons of games that I know that are geared to family-type-environments, and children. ((can't leave out the kiddos!))
I think that we also need to keep in mind that there needs to be an agreed upon area that people can goto when they want to 'get away' from all the newness and over stimulation. Some people (AD/HD and not) can get ... well ... upset easily/have their feelings hurt/want to get away from everything. I think we should give them that option so that they feel comfortable coming.
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together?
A week has a nice ring to it.
pembroke 05-22-05, 01:53 PM 1. The ideal time for you to meet others? End of June to September. (kids and i are all "out" for the year)
2. In your mind the ideal place to meet everyone? Hopefully not too far away. 3. DO you prefer camping or hotel room? Camping, actually. Campgrounds have showers, people!
4. If camping , do you have spare space to share for other people? Yes. Even if the kid decides to come, I could still put up 2 more (very close) people.
5. If hotel, do you prefer your own room or sharing? I would want my own room. Just because I need my own space to hide away into when it all gets too overwhelming....
6. Do you have a car ? if yes, can you pick up people along your way? It would be my husband's car, and depending on who comes along we might have some room left....
7. What kind of activities would you enjoy doing during the meeting?Eating, drinking, talking, playing games, music (no karaoke!)
8. What would be the best amount of time for the duration of the get together? 3 days to a week sounds ok.

I believe the plan is the last weekend in July @ Ian's. (Which is in Roseau River, Manitoba, Canada, as you can see.)

There is also a get together on the east coast in August, not sure when tho. I think it will be at the six flags Mass.
pembroke 05-23-05, 10:04 PM six flags in mass i can do!
There is good very good chance i wont be able to make it to Ian's this year. :(
With my job i wont be able to take enough days off to make it back and forth and stay there. It takes me about 2 days to go to Ians. Plus with the move i dont think money wise i can make it either, with all the extra money it takes to rent truck, get everything plug in again and ect ect ect.
I am very disapointed i so wanted to go. I still leave a small window where i could make it, who knows what will happen 2 motnhs from now.
Sorry all :eyebrow: , mostly Ian :( .
The ones that are gonna meet this year over there HAVE to take pics:cool: :)
No worries Lise. If I'm sitting in the canoe by myself I'll still send pics.. :D
I'll make up a more general announcement later when I have some other travel info to offer and maybe we'll attract a few.
Cheers! Ian.
Great idea Ian :D . But i would not mind helping in some ways to get people into it. :p :) even if i can make it.

Think way up north. 45 minutes or so north east of Pembina North Dakota. Last weekend in July. We're just testing the waters to see if this might work well.
There is a crew talking about meeting on the eastern seaboard too.
Cheers!
