View Full Version : CALIFORNIAN POLITICAL THREAD - Yeah, the recall
aforceforgood 08-21-03, 02:22 AM I know we don't have a whole lot of people from CA on this board, but you know people, have family, etc.
Or maybe you're in another state and are really curious as to what the recall's all about, would like to know more than the 15-second soundbite the national media reports.
We're faced with a deadly serious situation here in California, and I'm trying to make a difference for the better, so I feel it's imperative that people have the real facts, or I would not link to another board where I've talked at length with others about this situation.
Before I give you the link, I would like to warn you, it's an adult site, so there will be swearing, and some pretty adult themes.
There's also a lot of humor, lots of information on the various candidates, and lots of intelligent debate about what should be done, who's to blame, etc.
Here's the link - don't be put off by the title, I assure you, it is a serious discussion of the issues and candidates (http://bbs.burningman.com/index.cgi?14@115.R7i8aCcqfOo^115@.eee06eb/0)
Whatever your position is, I think you should be informed before you cast your vote. For instance, I think you should know before you vote for him just because he's a democrat (or is he?) that the current Lt. Governor, Cruz Bustamante, has ties to a radical group called MECHA that believes in the reconquista (reconquering) of California by Mexico.
I've learned things here that I didn't know, and I listen to talk radio all day long. Just please don't vote straight party lines. They've proven over and over that they don't care about you. That goes for either party. Stop falling for it.
waywardclam 08-21-03, 03:19 AM I have no say in this because I'm not only not Californian, but not even American. :D
But I have to admit I like Arnold even though he's a Republican and I normally hate them.
aforceforgood 08-21-03, 03:29 AM No? No to what?
Yeah, so far Arnold is being very cagey and not providing much detailed information about exactly what he will do to fix our problems, but I have to give him credit for how he's run his campaign so far, he's been very smart. I would like to vote for either him or McClintock, but I'm pretty sure he will win. He's pretty much got the middle of the bell shaped curve vote sewn up, so that pretty much settles that, unless Davis pulls a Florida ballot debacle...
Fortunately, I think he will do a good job as governor.
aforceforgood 08-21-03, 03:31 AM Oh, and BTW, when I said adult site, I didn't mean porn, I meant that the site is used by adults and that the stuff they discuss there might be considered inappropriate for children.
I reread my first post and saw that it could give that impression. oops.
FtLaudWolf 08-21-03, 08:28 AM I just want to go on record as saying that finally they've stopped making fun of Florida (Election 2000, Election 2001, Election 2002)
waywardclam 08-21-03, 12:15 PM LOL
jimmmaaa 08-21-03, 12:19 PM I think Davis deserves to be recalled. Hasta La Vista Baby! He totally blew it with the power "crisis" of 2001. He showed NO LEADERSHIP AT ALL during that period. His method has been Blame others for the problems and then take credit for the things that go well, even if it was not really his solution. He is gutless, and inspires no leadership. I am sure he will be out on October 7th, and it will be Good Ridance to him!! "Don't let the door hit you on the way out!" We went from a 10 Billion Surplus! to an almost 40 Billion Deficit! in 4 year period! What an understatement he had at his little press conference. Here is a quote from the Sacramento Bee from Davis' press conference: Davis also acknowledged that he "could have been tougher in holding the line on spending" during state budget surpluses. But he said most of the increases went to education and health. "I make no apologies for that," he said. He also said "I know that many of you feel that I was too slow to act on the energy crisis,"
A crisis that could have been alleviated had Davis done something as he should have way before he did his back room deals with the trustworthy power companies.
Bring on the Govenator! I will be voting Yes on the Recall and for Arnold Governor!!!!

Political Viagra for the USA! Because they're having trouble sustaining an election... :D :D :D
Wheel1975 10-06-03, 10:01 AM Paul! Haaa Haa haa GOL (Grin out loud) eh?
FtLaudWolf!
"Why is it when help is so readily available, we all too often choose to walk alone? To save my own life, I will ask for help today."
I'll ask! Where is this help you speak of?
InattentiveType 10-06-03, 11:18 AM It's too late for California.
Move to the US if you don't like the Govt in Kali.
ferrette1976 10-06-03, 11:19 AM I am not from California, and I am not even sure if I would vote for Arnold BUT:
I think this whole sexual harassment stuff is BS. I mean, even if he did grab someone's butt 30 years ago, who cares? They should have said something about it a long time ago.
Just my two cents!:D
joanrdtobe 10-06-03, 11:26 AM Paul: VERY FUNNY.....as usual.....:D :D :D
Fort Laud: I definitely think Florida will never again be immuned to being made fun of.......wait until the next presidential election.....We have a reputation now......
And regarding this topic, the only really exciting thing I'm hearing about lately is how finally Arnold's past indiscretions with women are finally coming to light....and he wants to explain them "after he's elected".......hmmmmm.......
ferrette1976 10-06-03, 12:01 PM I heard a great joke on Letterman about this:
Now that Arnold is accused of sexual harassment, it makes him presidential material. Ha-ha!
Regarding Arnold’s past indiscretions – I do not doubt that he groped some women 30 years ago, but there is a thing called “the statute of limitations”. They should have said something about it a long time ago. The fact that they are complaining about it now gives the accusations no credibility.

Diane: Agree totally........with this......
And as for Letterman's joke.....about Arnold being presidential material -- I could hear him saying in his own "Arnold" accent"
"I deed not have sexual reelations weeth thoze women":D
elSenor 10-10-03, 09:15 PM If I fondle a strange woman's breasts, buttocks, and vagina, she will call the police and I will be arrested. I will likely serve significant jail time and will definetly be registered as a sex offender for life.
But Arnold Schwarzenegger admits to serial sexual assault and is then elected governor. The difference? I don't have a nice fortune to deter my victims from accusing me because they don't want to be smeared and humilliated by hollywood elites and the media kingpins who worship them.
There is a double standard here. If sex offenders are really so dangerous to society, then perhaps they should not head state governments. Americans seem to really want to prove their ability to elect those statemen least likely to be effective and most likely to titilate and thrill.
I know! We elected an adulturer that other time and that was fairly entertaining so let's see what a rapist can do!
-Mike
joanrdtobe 10-11-03, 09:02 AM True Mike, we elected an adulturer that other time -- but at the time, we didn't know we were doing it.....until after the fact....This time we DO know what we're doing....and yuh, it makes little sense....
But as they say -- money talks.....volumes....:(
Wheel1975 10-11-03, 10:00 AM whoaa
Ben franklin has 18 documented illegitimate children, but politically he was involved in France, England and the US, calming wars.
Can we try to separate one thing from the other?
What "little willy" does is not really any part of my interest in a political leader. Unless, because of "little willy" he deserves to be in JAIL.
Besides, california is now the first to have a Governator!
i can't wait to see how this plays out.
Will there be another recall in 12 months?

The difference? 30 years.
Even if he'd been jailed he'd be out now, having "served his time."
30 days ago would be a different story.
