Hey All,

Just looking for anyone out there who may have or is suffering sleepwalking and/or insominia?? and is it a known symptom of Adult ADD? I have read a bit about kids diagnosed ADD having sleep disorders but even then there is not much info! My friend is not sleeping much at all but when she does manage to get to sleep she walks in her sleep and ends up doing some pretty interesting stuff...like laundry and emptying out cupboards and moving stuff all over the house to punching up her partner! She is getting freaked out about it so I thought I'd check to see if anyone out there has or knows of simliar symptoms!

Thanks

Take care

Wow wish i sleepwalked too and did some laundry  :p :) .

Seriously tho , i did sleepwalk and had insomnia as a kid. As an adult i dont sleepwalk, but i still battle with insomnia once in a while.

My trick that worked for me with insomnia is i dont try to battle it, if i cant sleep i will get up, and i dont stress out about it , so usualy i can manage to have a few good hours sleep in that way. Because i think the more you stress about the hours you have left to sleep is even worst. So just accept the fact that tomorrow you will be tired and it's ok, i know i have survived thrue entire nights of not sleeping and going to work, so i dont stress no more and it seems to work for me.

Thanks for your reply Digitl,

My friend is stressing because her partner is stressing! Like if she is sleepwalking he gets frustrated and if she is just unable to sleep and doing stuff around the house in the early hours of the morning he thinks she is sleepwalking and gets quite angry with her so I think she is feeling guilty and also her health is suffering because she is not getting enough sleep so it is a vicious circle. I really do feel for her as she has tried all sorts of pills and potions to make her sleep but she just can't and if and when she does she sleep walks or has nightmares!

Thanks again for your input :)

YOur welcome :D

I am no doctor mind you. But it seems to be it is a vicious cicle of frustration for everyone. I think they should have a talk together, and ask each other to back off for a while on the stress this is creating.

Ask them to give her space and if she knows he wont stress out, maybe it will help her to relax and things will get smoother a little bit. I know it's not easy, but i think if they both work together on this it will work out.

Maybe even have them prepare a scenario for the evening ,and the morning, and it should always be positive ect, maybe if they get into this pattern regularly it will become a daily thing they do.

My 2 canadian cents :)

I was discharged from the military for sleepwalking. My sleepwalking is bad...oh so bad. I maybe, if lucky, get 4hrs sleep a night. Also I talk a lot in my sleep and I am constantly thinking when I try to sleep. Unfortunately the medicine has only helped this a little.

I don't sleepwalk, but have insomnia, always have. I can go to bed at 11:00 and be up til 3 or 4 just thinking, and I can't turn off the thoughts. I think of what I have to do, who I have to see, what's coming up socially, then I get stuck playing out conversations, etc.... My oldest daughter does the exact same thing. I don't know if sleepwalking is a symptom of ADD, but the obsessive thoughts that keep you up is a symptom of ADD.

Has your friend talked to a psychiatrist about the sleepwalking? I'd think it could get dangerous if she's "punching someone up".
