when I posted the first thread about the jewelry I make, I couldn't remember how to get photos to post ....and ended up losing an entire thread except for the first part ....

......I make 2 different types of bracelets ....you've seen the tiny dial bracelets, this photo is the large dial bracelets ....the dials I use are from men's wristwatches, dating from about 1919 to the late 1940s.....few men's wristwatches of that era were round ....they were every other shape you can think of, cushion, barrel, rectangular, square, cut corner ....what's fun is that the wider the numbers, the older the dial, the early numbers were mostly painted on, while as the years went by the numbers became narrower, and the numbers became "applied gold numbers" and the high end watch companies used to punch their numbers out of thin sheets of solid gold, with little tiny hairs sticking out the back of each number, and they put those little tiny hairs into little tiny holes on the front of the dial, and then when you turn the dial over you can see the little mashed part where they pushed those hairs down ....

...and like the tiny dial bracelets, these dials look better when curved ...and of course, 95 % of them are flat ....so I curve them ....

.....These 2 photos show what I call "graduated round dial necklaces" ok it's a mouthful ....but I don't know what else to call them ! ......the center of each necklace is a metal pocketwatch dial .....then the smaller round dials are from men's watches from the 1950s to the late 60s....( by the 70s most watches were quartz and had date windows ...) there's a couple of problems with those dials ....they got bigger over the those years, but ....as they got bigger, they slowly stopped having numbers on them ....mostly it's a line, and they started thusly ...number line nember line etc....then number line line number line line ...then numbers at the quarters, then 12 and 6, then 12, and finally no numbers at all ....well the look of the dials are very different .....and when making a necklace those dials have to co-ordinate...both in style and size ....

.....and of course I have the opposite problem with the round dials ...they are curved near the outer edge,....but the center pocketwatch dials aren't ....so...I have to flatten the round dials to look ok with the flat center dial ...jeesh ....

...this first photo shows a necklace at the bottom of the stack that sidesteps the problem by using nothing but pocket watch dials ...the gold ones are from ladies pocket watches from 1880 to the 1920s or so ....

<a href="http://s760.photobucket.com/user/sallyshoaf/media/IMGP7782%202_zpsxkj4hhwh.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/sallyshoaf/IMGP7782%202_zpsxkj4hhwh.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMGP7782 2_zpsxkj4hhwh.jpg"/></a>

...while most of the necklaces, like all the rest of the jewelry, are made from white or off white dials, I do manage to scrounge up some black dials and make these......

....this next shot is some of the earrings .....mostly from dials, but people keep asking for watch movement earrings, so I use the smallest ones I can find .... I love the large silver dial earrings, they are from cheap pocket watches from England, are very light ...and are about 90 to 110 years old ....

<a href="http://s760.photobucket.com/user/sallyshoaf/media/IMGP7697%202_zpswc66yrfp.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/xx244/sallyshoaf/IMGP7697%202_zpswc66yrfp.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMGP7697 2_zpswc66yrfp.jpg"/></a>

...and finally, here just a small smattering of rings ....they're fun to wear...and some are big enough to cover a finger from knuckle to knuckle....I sell them as both jewelry, and " personal defence weapons" ....if you backhand someone wearing one of those big rings, you can rip a person's face off....heh ....
