I know with Adderall the manufacturer makes a huge difference. I was wondering if Dexedrine was the same? If so, what is the best brand for generic IR Dexedrine? Unfortunately my insurance won't pay for the extended release version and I am scared of getting a bad brand like I did with Adderall.

I'm on the fence about whether brand actually makes a difference, especially when it comes to IR meds. It's the same active chemical, I don't think the composition of the inert binders/fillers make a difference unless you happen to be allergic to one of them. Extended-release meds are another story; there is precedent there in the case of Wellbutrin (bupropion), wherein a generic sustained-release version was proven to be less effective than brand because it didn't release properly due to the binders.

On the other hand, you do see a lot of people claiming adamantly that one brand makes them miserable while another works perfectly. I don't want to categorically call BS on them all; I'm not them and don't have any way of knowing what they experience. It is definitely suspect, though, in cases where people have only ever taken one brand of a given medication and are convinced it's a "bad brand"...to me it's much more likely that they simply don't respond well to the drug itself.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I've been on every one for 30+ years and for me they are all different. Don't know if it's worth more than 2 cents but experience is priceless.

All the generic adderall brands are made by SHIRE except the newer one by ACTAVIS. I had never ever had an issue with generics until I got that one. After three days I took all the unused medication, gave it to my doc to dispose of properly and went to a different pharmacy, which is the one I still use. As a matter of fact I have been taken the one from GLOBAL and never had an issue. Teva/Barr merged so they are one company now, not sure if they have the generic adderall.
As far as dex goes, I was had always taken the one made by Teva/Barr. I was under the impression that the brand used to be called DEXTROSTAT and that it was no longer made anymore but I could be wrong and you might want to wait and see what the others say.

I just got Dexedrine 10mgs up to 3 a day IR filled yesterday. They are white diamond shaped pills with a M 10 imprint, and the label says they are made by Mallinckrodt. I took one yesterday and felt okay, but I think I'll need to give it a few days to see how well it works. I only took one tablet because it was getting late and I didn't want to be up all night (like I already am:rolleyes:). I can't comment on other brands since this is my first script and first time using this generic manufacturer. It was the same with Adderall, I was only on it for 2 months, and both scripts for that were made by Cor Pharm. I switched from Adderall to Dexedrine to try and eliminate some of the negative side effects. I hope it works.

I think all the dex IR generics are pretty much the same. I know with adderall its debately to say the least (I think sandoz is best, some like barr, 1 or 2 people think corepharma is good). As for dexedrine IR they are all great I can't even say - but I have used Mallis and they are solid!

I can give you my opinion on whether I would expect you (or me) to experience substantive differences between different suppliers of dextroamphetamine sulfate which I can backup with objective rationale, testing, and FDA studies/guidelines, but that doesn't matter here imho. Take the drug, titrate to your optimal dose/frequency. If at this point it is working for you, great. If OTOH it is too variable for you, try a different brand if so inclined. HTH -LN

My two cents:

Had Barr IR Dex for years. Was good in that you knew what you were getting. Some say it works better/worse, I can't say for sure as I never took a brand, but it was consistent. Somewhere in my long posts, there's probably a mention of weirdness between just taking a 5mg or half of a 10mg, which had different results for me (and maybe I'm sensitive to the dye or something? But it was definitely different).

In the past year, was given Wilshire (weird - maybe stronger? Hit me hard and made me a little Energizer bunny or conversely, a bulldozer, depending on whom you ask). Didn't like it and not a reliable response from day to day.

Got KVK-Tech the last two times from Walgreen's and just not digging it at all. Can't even tell you if it is stronger or weaker or what, but it's just weird as well, stuffs up my head, makes me cough, and hasn't provided very good results for the ADD. Had their generics in another med, and one of the binders didn't agree with me at all (so possible I went into that with preconceived notions or that they use the same binder in the Dex and that makes for an odd experience).

They say the treatment goal of meds is to make each day as much like the previous as possible so you learn what to expect. Have been on a roller coaster of meds this year after previously (happily) taking the same dose for ever-n-ever. Would like to happily go back to a low dose of Sandoz Adderall IR with a Barr Dex booster, but has become impossible to get these manufacturers reliably at any pharmacy, and I am so over the trekking from pharmacy to pharmacy...

I will say that for me, changing manufacturers in generics usually takes a two-week or so adjustment before it levels out and you know what's what. Someone else pointed that out a while back and it's definitely been my case.

Could be that I am overly sensitive to fillers or dyes or whatever, but that's 100% the reality for me.

I don't doubt people who say there's no difference between manufacturers, I just envy them and their lucky experience! :)

So I'll be to the point...or try to be :-):

On medication for a good while now. Was prescribed generic Adderall IR which had too many side effects, including anxiety. Switched to generic dextroamphetamine IR which has worked better as a treatment for my symptoms with less side effects.

Three Dex IR Experiences:
Mallinckrodt : Not the strongest but very smooth and clean. Good for treating symptoms
Core: Stronger than the mallinckrodt but not quite as smooth or clean. Still ok.
Barr: Hit hard. Almost adderall like for the first few days, however more of the side effects that one would associate with adderall. Seems as though more of the levo was left in but what do I know.

Of the three if I had the option at a pharmacy to fill a prescription, 1.Mallinckrodt, 2. Corepharma 3.Barr

My area does not carry the Mallinckrodt's anymore, so left with Core, Barr, or another I am not sure about offered by Sandoz.

Anyone have experience with generic Sandoz Dexadrine IR?

Zenzedi worked best for me but it's relatively difficult to find a pharmacy that carries it / can special-order it

I was on BAR IR Dex and sometimes got CoPharm when Walg was out and found them the same. I've had no shortage trouble for last 2 years! Missouri.

Now KVK has replaced BARR at Walg and I trully feell after 4 months it's not as effective! KVK 10mg marked K/ 66 and it has more fillers and does not taste sweet like BAR. I think KVK not as pure as Barr.

80$ cash for #120 10mg for last years.

Anyone tried buying BARR instead of KVK at same price?

Generic Dexedrine are not all same I have been on stimulants for decades for ADD and Narcolepsy/Cataplexy severe central hyersomnia. I just got 540 cap of Dexedrime Sr cap generic mfg Mayne. these have done nothing for me it is like taking a placebo as I sleep most day and night.
I do not know if you all know that the FDA allows generic mfg to not use the full drug amount they can cannot go beyond 3% , so generics you are not getting the full dose but some mfg are better than others . This was validated by my specialist.
