So I went through the 101 questions and it fed this out...

Obviously nothing can replace and actual diagnosys but it fits me. I have an appointment on Friday but am really a little aprehensive. I don't know how to describe it but I ikind of feel guilty like I am trying to cheat or lie or something. I don't know I am frequently like that I'll be in a situation like at the bank or the DMV and I'll be feeling like I am doing something that is not honest and have a hard time making eye contact when all I am doing is depositing money or registering my car. I usually fight my way through it and I don't think anyone notices but it stresses me out. I guess I'll find out on friday

Heck I took the test printed out the questions and answers and the dx and took it to my appt with me. I also made a list of issues I had that were not included on the test. I still had to take the test for my doc but the answers were the same. lol

This is your life your talking about. Of course your going to research what ails you and seek medical advice. If my doctor had made any kind of negative comment about my bringing the test and the research I had done before hand I would have been looking for a new doctor.

I found a lump in my breast three years ago and researched what it could be from a fatty tumor to cancer and the options before my first appt. Its your health, your right.

This is only a test though, could be other things. Maybe depression or something.

I soo know what you mean about that though! Everyone tells me I overexplain everything like I have something to hide when I dont. Even when I am shopping I feel like I am doing something wrong like people might think I am stealing if I walk a certian way or stuff even though I have never stole in my life. I dont do eye contact either and I know just what you mean by always feeling guilty for no reason.

I hear ya on that. I had a interview for a new job today and the only way I could focus on doing well is to throw a fatty chew in on the drive there so that I could pull everything together. It definately calms the storm, but it sucks having to carry mouthwash in my car so I presentable to the potential employers. Oh and I guess there is that whole cancer, potential for having my lips cut off aspect of using chew to self medicate.:p

This is what I ended up with:

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width=500 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=3>

Ok, so...absentminded, possibly hyperfocused, and probably anxious, with memory difficulties. What a shock.

I found that test much more in-depth than what the shrink used to make her diagnosis.

Have I mentioned I have a very low opinion of psychiatrists? I fired mine and went to my PCP whom I've known over 20 years. We're going to try Strattera.

Getting the diagnosis is the first step. I took the CAAR self reporting test, followed by a clinical evalution. In the test, I scored very high (90+ percentile) on many of the symptoms that are typical of non-attentitive ADD.

Anyway, once you get the official diagnosis, its a big relief. From there, you can make the decisions to deal with your problems, be it medication, therapy, or behavior modification or all of them. Its is the first step on a new journey!

I had my test done with my therapist. My family doctor recommended her for the diagnosis. Took about one hour.

Nicotine and caffeine - the most common forms of self-medication! I love cigars - really calms me down.

In the past, before I used Adderall, I experimented with nicotine gum. Same effects without the mess of chew.

I just took the test, also...

<table border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0" width="500"><tbody><tr><td>Type</td><td>Probability</td><td>
</td></tr><tr><td colspan="3"><hr noshade="noshade" size="1"></td></tr><tr><td>ADD Combined Type</td><td>Not Probable</td><td>more info (http://www.amenclinic.com/ac/addtests/results.asp#combined)</td></tr><tr><td>ADD Inattentive Type</td><td>Highly Probable</td><td>more info (http://www.amenclinic.com/ac/addtests/results.asp#inattentive)</td></tr><tr><td>Cingulate System Hyperactivity</td><td>Highly Probable</td><td>more info (http://www.amenclinic.com/ac/addtests/results.asp#cingulate)</td></tr><tr><td>Limbic System Hyperactivity</td><td>Highly Probable</td><td>more info (http://www.amenclinic.com/ac/addtests/results.asp#limbic)</td></tr><tr><td>Basal Ganglia Hyperactivity</td><td>Highly Probable</td><td>more info (http://www.amenclinic.com/ac/addtests/results.asp#basal)</td></tr><tr><td>Temporal Lobe System</td><td>Highly Probable</td><td>more info (http://www.amenclinic.com/ac/addtests/results.asp#temporal)</td></tr></tbody></table>

I was quite sure I had the inattentive type, anyway. I'm definitely not one of the ADHDers with all this excess energy and talking a mile a minute. I'm one of the sluggish, withdrawn, depressed types.

I saw a cool article on MSN a while back, summarizing some of Barkley's work for the lay-people.

http://health.msn.com/centers/adhd/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100104643

The thing that interested me the most was on page 4 (link (http://health.msn.com/centers/adhd/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100104643&page=4)) ... it's talking about different subtypes of the inattentive type. I believe I'm a Subtype C.

<table class="tableStyles" cellpadding="5"><tbody><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1">Subtype C: Sluggish cognitive type (or SCT)

</td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1">Day-dreamy, foggy, easily confused, has trouble focusing. Can’t discern what’s important. Information-processing problems.

</td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1">Passive, lethargic, hypoactive, not at all impulsive. Shy, withdrawn, passive, uninvolved. Productivity is okay but problems with accuracy.

</td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1">Does not respond well to stimulant medication; may respond to social skills training and cognitive therapy.

</td></tr></tbody></table>

I cant really trust this test too much I think. It has me at high for both combined and cingulate, which, as described, are practially polar opposites. Maybe I just don't know enough about ADD yet though.
