Does everyone else here always walk into things? Door frames are a common one for me, and I currently have 3 majorly huge bruises from shelves at work. Please tell me I'm not the only one that does this...

Please tell me I'm not the only one that does this... stori813 05-20-05, 03:53 AM Yes I'm naturally graceful there isn't a door frame I haven't walked into:o Trip going up stairs the whole bit lol. EYEFORGOT 05-20-05, 09:20 AM I've always been very clumsy. My nickname when I was a kid was "Grace". Why is it such a joy and joke to others to see others trip over themselves? I wasn't trying to be one of the 3 Stooges. Though now I find it much funnier than when I was a self-conscious kid. My second has followed in my foot-steps (punny), and has a close relationships to door frames and the floor at the bottom of the stairs. Legs 05-20-05, 04:11 PM I'm forever walking into things too. There are times when I can think 'don't walk into that' and still manage to do it. I've just recently got over a bad phase of shutting the car door on my leg! ;) Tangerine 05-20-05, 05:32 PM My shoulder always catches on door frames and corners of walls. I trip over carpets and run into people all the time. I feel like I sometimes have poor balance, like I'm a little tipsy, but without having drunk anything :) Of course, this clumsiness only gets worse if I DO drink. From what I hear, it makes for a good laugh (and a good briuse for me). Now I just laugh right along with them. stori813 05-20-05, 05:39 PM Anyone besides me also ruin a lot of clothes? Getting caught on things then having them rip or make a hole. And spilling or splashing stuff on myself and making stains. This has caused me to buy more then one of a shirt I like. lol Always have the backup shirt ready when I ruin the first one. And the thing is I'm always being careful still doesn't matter. Gourmet 05-20-05, 06:31 PM Stori , All of my clothes have been altered by some sort of unwanted chemical.....and shoes too. I don't own much that does not have paint on it somewhere. Because when I want to paint, I want to paint....I think I could be wearing a cinderella gown and still am bent on making my way to any paintbrush in sight. I also keep a spare shirt in my studio for the same purposes as you.....seems like that is a little backwards in my case, though (hehehe). Looks like I could use the apron on the hook on the wall and maybe wouldn't need the back up! :) I don't eat anything red if I can help it when I am dressed to go out and never anything with powdered sugar. When I get to the party, I tip my glass ever so slightly to get the spill out of the way...it relieves the stress of anticipating an accident. (snicker) About clumsiness.....I stump my toes and I am sure I have broken them all at one time or another. Once I went a week with a rectangular bruise in the middle of my forehead. I walked directly into a half way opened door. That one was a little hard to explain. I looked like I had been stenciled....ouch stori813 05-20-05, 07:30 PM Gourmet ahhh yes the broken toes lol I've had many. The mysterious bruises you can't remember how you got them. The bruises you do remember and hope no one says how did you get that. I agree powdered sugar out of the home a big No No lol I actually have going out of the house clothes. That I hope still look good by the time I get home. I could wear an apron and still get something on the clothes under it. The Joy of being clumsy LOL EYEFORGOT 05-20-05, 08:50 PM Ditto. I don't buy white. Ichpuchtli 05-21-05, 01:38 AM I walk into things alot and about 4 weeks ago I ran straight through a sliding glass door. It hurt alot. speedo 05-21-05, 01:41 AM I have occasional problems with vertigo due to hearing damage. One day I started to walk out the door and missed the doorway and walked into the wall. DOH! Me Does everyone else here always walk into things? Door frames are a common one for me, and I currently have 3 majorly huge bruises from shelves at work. Please tell me I'm not the only one that does this... adhdxyz 05-21-05, 02:01 AM I can relate also. It is very embarrassing to trip and fall when you are in your 40's. Like whenever I am walking casually in our back yard, I always seem to find that one hole in the ground that I put my foot into and fall. Or when I was recently walking out of the gas station, holding 3 sodas, 2 lottery tickets and my cell phone. My husband looks away for one second and when he looks back, he no longer sees me coming toward the truck. Why? I tripped and fell. My levis (that aren't cheap) now have a "designer" hole in the knee with a trickle of blood showing. Or when my kids and I went for a walk and I looked to the left and low and behold, I am on the ground because I didn't notice the little break in the sidewalk. I not only hurt my hand when I landed, but my knees were scabbed for what seemed like forever. My kids had to help me walk back home (luckily we were only up the street). I had shorts on so my knees were bleeding. I had tears in my eyes. My husband opened the door in shock thinking that I had gotten run over by a semi truck by the looks of me. I laid on the bed and my husband and kids cleaned the small tiny rocks out of my knees. Then came the peroxide. Ouch. Ever since that day, I never pretend to my kids that peoxide doesn't hurt. Then came the vaseline on my knees. Then, for days and days, I had to wear majorly big bandaids because my knee scabs kept oozing through my pants while at work. How gross and down right embarrassing. Another time, we were out looking for Lake property and got lost so we pulled up to a fire house. My daughter and I walked up to where the good looking firemen were and as I opened my mouth to ask directions, I fell over their sidewalk dip. Once again, knees bleeding. They asked if they could get me anything. I immediately said "No, I'm fine". We got directions and left. I made my husband pull over down the road at a convenience store and pay a million dollars for stuff to clean up my knees that the firemen had for free. Sound adhd to you? My 14 year old daughter is even more clumsy than I am. (We don't play sports for that reason.) She thought her name was "Jan Brady" for several years because whenever she fell, we would say "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia". (Does anyone remember when Jan Brady had to get glasses because she kept crashing her bike all the time?) That's my daughter. She ended up getting glasses and now contacts and life is less clumsy for her. Now if I would just wear either my glasses or contacts I would be less clumsy too but I don't want to wear them. Guess I will had bloody, scabby knees the rest of my life. :) Gourmet 05-21-05, 03:27 AM "Like whenever I am walking casually in our back yard, I always seem to find that one hole in the ground that I put my foot into and fall." ~quote: adhdxyz You always make me laugh!!! Why does the hole keep moving? It is never in the same spot where I stepped into it the day before! Why does it keep moving??? That's what I want to know! hehehehehhe adhdxyz 05-21-05, 09:27 AM As far as the hole always finding my foot, if I were my add self medicated husband, I would say "The whole entire world, no, the entire universe, is out to get me". But since I am not him, and I am the mother of the "peusdo Jan Brady", I would have to instead say "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia." prumont 05-22-05, 12:30 AM My shoulder always catches on door frames and corners of walls. Ha ha ha - this is me too! :D wheresmykeys 05-22-05, 09:32 PM I laugh at myself all the time... I only find it a bother when Im at work and everytime I help a customer find something on the way I walk into like 5 things..or when I've walked into the same thing so many times I'm re-bruising my bruises. After a certain number of times in one day it gets a bit aggravating, but I generally find people, including myself, running into things rather hilarious. janesays 05-26-05, 10:00 PM OH OH YES. I'll be walking thinking I'm smaller than I am or something and bump my hip. I always drop ****. Lotion bottles pans of water dishes etc. etc. General klutzyness. Eve_L 05-26-05, 10:45 PM Yes, I most deffinatly am very clumsy too. I always run into things and drop things. I think someone else may have already mentioned it, but I also get caught on things a lot. For example, I was walking in the woods and my shirt or my hood got caught on a branch. It was like a hook, I couldn't keep going I had to stop and get myself unstuck. This tends to happen with my hair a lot too. I also find that sometimes I get caught on shelves and things by my clothes. One of my friends falls down almost every time we walk in the woods. It's actually quite hillarious as long as she doesn't get hurt. speedo 05-27-05, 01:43 AM I had some mild vertigo for a while (associated with tinnitus). One day I was leaving my apartment and on my way to the door I missed the doorway and walked straight into the wall. Does that count ? As far as being in a hurry and banging body parts into things, yes, I used to do that all the time, but I now do it a lot less now that I"m starting to manage things a lot better. Me :D Does everyone else here always walk into things? Door frames are a common one for me, and I currently have 3 majorly huge bruises from shelves at work. Please tell me I'm not the only one that does this... dfac001 05-27-05, 01:49 AM for me...i dun walk into things that often...but i always miscalculate/misjudge the clearance distance from the table corner or door knob and my hip bone will hit that corner...it's so painful and stupid... ashley 05-27-05, 02:34 AM If I'm generally overwhelmed, in a hurry, lost, flustered, thinking, chewing gum, wearing nice clothes, or breathing I bump into/trip over/knock down everything within a 20ft radius. My home seems to be a disaster area, but when I've cleaned and there's a respectable junk-free zone it's guaranteed I'll trip over nothing and break something. I'm fine in all other situations. :) adhdxyz 05-27-05, 09:22 AM ashley, I am not a doctor, but I am adhd and have that "genius" trait going on...so I have a "possible" solution in order for you to avoid always bumping into things. I would suggest the following solutions: don't get overwhelmed (delegate, delegate, delegate) stop being in a hurry (s- l-o-w down) don't get lost (stay home) don't let yourself get flustered (just don't do anything) stop thinking (save your brain cells) quit chewing gum (your dentist will thank me) stop wearing nice clothes (this will help you save money) try not to breath as much (perhaps move to a different state) By doing the above things, it should cut down dramatically on your bumping, tripping and knocking down everything. NOTE: The above tips do not apply if you are not within a 20 ft radius. Good luck. :) Prairiewind 05-27-05, 05:39 PM Yep, a graceful swan, that's me:) I bump into door frames, walk into the corners of tables, have bruises on my legs because I turn too soon when going around my bed, whack my knuckles and smash my fingers all the time. Fortunately, since taking meds I don't trip over my words or lose my balance when walking anymore. I read that this lack of coordination is the physical part of the neurological mis-wiring that is ADD/ADHD; ADD/ADHD being the mental part. So we are all nice and normal as far as our gracefullness goes. How about opening a cupboard door, then bending down to get something out of a draw and standing up only to whack your head on the cupboard door? How about opening a drawer, turning around to reach for something, then turning around again and walking forward, thereby practically breaking your leg from having smashed your shin into the drawer. Yep, a gazelle, that's me:) addhil 05-27-05, 05:54 PM I also have a hard time with bumping into things. The other day I walked right into one of those diagonal metal cord things that stick out from power line posts, I don't know if that's a good description or not but I can tell you that it hurt like hell. Especially since I had been wearing flipflops. I'm always tripping over stuff too. Not just the shoes scattered over the floor, I'm asking for it there. But when there's a slab of sidewalk sticking out a bit more than usual I often trip over those too. FlyGurl 06-01-05, 04:51 PM :) I was smiling reading all the post!! I walk into doors, walls..you name it I walk into it. And I wear glasses!! Right now I have a bruise on my forhead cause I ran into the bathroom door in the middle of the night!! I knew it was there but I didn't even think about NOT walking into it...lovely times...make-up is a blessing right now!! :D my legs are very bruised up to...I normaly have at least 2-3 on each leg...people stop asking cause they realize i'm just a cluz!! OH and one more thing...I walk right into puddles...yeah rain is not my friend when there are big muddy puddles around. dfac001 06-02-05, 02:27 AM oh...btw i don't just walk into things and bump into table corner and door knob... sometimes i close my car door before my foot actually got into the car... and i often close other doors on myself too... i think it's because my mind wanders and i lost track of what i'm doing... also i'm so hyper...like jumping right into the house and already can't wait to start closing the door... |
