I have an appointment with an adult ADD specialist tomorrow (Monday May 24th - 2:30p).

I had asked my doctor if she'd put me on Strattera and she said she wouldn't because of the supposed liver damage people have been having. So she refered me to an ADD specialist.

I want to try Strattera or at the very least Wellbutrin or Imipramine. Stimulant medications cause me chest pain so they are out of the question.

I've decided to make a list of some of the characteristics that I feel on a daily basis to show my specialist. I thought that I might not remember what it feels like to be me or explain while in the office.

Anything else I can do to prepare for the appointment would be great. Also any comforting thoughts would be appreciated too! :)

Hi today's wonderful. I hope your appointment tomorrow goes well :)

I think a list is a good idea. My doctor does not care for lists because I think he prefers to be able to ask the appropriate questions that hold the information he needs.
I have taken things before in writing and he does not have time to read them during the office visit.

I would take your list for your own referral so that you do not forget to ask a question or give him some information you think is important. Next time you may want to consider sending him the information prior to the appointment. I have done this and it has always been appreciated.

I take Strattera. The doctor will need to monitor your liver function for a while. I have never had any trouble.

Maybe your doctor is concerned about a pre-existing condition you may have. My doctor would not prescribe ADD meds at all until I had approval by my neurologist, because I have a seizure disorder.
It turns out that Strattera was the best choice in my case.

Don't be nervous about your appointment because I think you are fortunate to have an ADD specialist near you. He should know exactly what he is doing. You will be fine.:)

I think a list is a good idea. My doctor does not care for lists because I think he prefers to be able to ask the appropriate questions that hold the information he needs.I was thinking he might ask me how I feel and I might be stuck for words. This has happened before. My doctor asks me how I feel and wants 'proof' of a perticular situation. Of course I didn't have proof and couldn't explain myself well so she might have thought I was just anxious and exaggerating. I would like to be taken more seriously. She cannot know how I feel is she's not me!

I would take your list for your own referral so that you do not forget to ask a question or give him some information you think is important. The question list sounds like a good idea. I'm going to make some questions after I post. :)

Next time you may want to consider sending him the information prior to the appointment. I have done this and it has always been appreciated.I am thinking my doctor would take me as paranoid or anxoius to do that, not to mention completely organized, a characteristic not anything to do with ADD.

I take Strattera. The doctor will need to monitor your liver function for a while. I have never had any trouble.I thought of this, but didn't tell my doctor. I'll be sure to tell my specialist this information, though he probably already knows.

Don't be nervous about your appointment because I think you are fortunate to have an ADD specialist near you. He should know exactly what he is doing. You will be fine.:)I am very excited about going to this appointment! :D I am HAPPY! For some reason I feel I am being given a chance at life. My therapist before called me a 'puzzle' and so therapy seems 'out the door.'

I want help!

Thanks for your ideas Gourmet!

I am on my way to the doctors soon. I actually am abit scared. I think maybe I will not be taken seriously.

I'll be back on in a few hours (Which may seem to me like much longer then that! ;)) I've been waiting so long for this appointment and I'm kinda anxious.

I hope he can help me! :(

I'm baaaaack! :D

My doctor asked me about some of the symptoms I experience and I told him about Strattera and how my family doctor wouldn't prescribe it for me because of the liver problems it's caused in the past.

He said the liver problems were very insignificant and he is having me do blood work just to make sure I okay.

And he also had a catchy phrase he said to me after suggesting it - "It's worth a try!" he said. I'm so excited try it out! :)

I'm gonna post on the medication forum under 'Strattera' more about it...

Effexor is also used -- and can be semi-stimulating. :)

Effexor is also used -- and can be semi-stimulating. :)It seems like a good idea. I've heard of Effexor and it's effect on dopamine production. I haven't heard many people with ADD using it though.

I'm on Celexa right now and doing excellent with depression and anxiety, so I'd like to stay with Celexa.

Thank you for the suggestion! :)

Let's me quote an adhd specialist highly regarded in Quebec: "Meds are like shoes, you have to tried many before finding those who fit".

Ask if you can start with a smaller dose of Strattera thant 40 mg. Some people find 40 mg too high as a starting dose.
