Hmm....

I'd invite my family over. Mom, Dad, Brother and girlfriend. Uncle and two cousins, perhaps current beau.

The reason? You shouldn't have to have a reason to spend time with your family.

If I must have one, because I haven't seen them in a while. I feel completely comfortable around them and can be myself without feeling insecure for any reason. I don't have to put on any masks or feel like I "have to" do anything except be me.

We'd talk about everything under the sun. I'd probably entertain them with my latest musical piano composition, my brother would tell us about his job and new house, how school was going. My dad would tell us about his trip to see my grandparents and how Italy was. Mom would talk about her students and her latest entrepreneurial endeavor. Me? I'd sit back and listen, laugh, and be a good host by making sure everyone's wine glass was never empty.

We'd all cook together. Last time, we prepared stuffed lemon chicken drumsticks, spinach puffs, stuffed mushrooms, quiche, and a roast with frangelica mousse for dessert with black coffee.

I chose my family because they're the only one's who'll put up with me, laugh at my jokes, and love me for who I am, ADD and all.

:) Awww, now I feel like having dinner with my family :)

My sister Kim, her husband and 5 boys (3 of which have ADD and 1 who is ADHD), my lil brother Gary (ADD-dyslexic) and his wife (ADD-bi-polar) and their two babies, my lilest brother David (adHHHHHHHHHd) and his wife and two boys (both adHHHHHHHHd) and their daughter, mom and dad.

What will you talk about? Its hard to tell with all of us talking at once. You just jump in here and there and add your own conversation.

What will you eat? Probably bar-b-q chicken, baked beans, cheese and crackers, popcorn, smores, pop

We are having a bar-b-q tonight to celebrate the end of the school year and the fact that all the kids have passed onto the next level and Lexi and Devan catching up to their peers (we do this every year and give the kids awards and extra incentive awards). Hey, any reason to get together. :rolleyes: :D

We will be playing games our favorite is the disney and regular version of Scene It because you get to blurt out answers and we are all competitive so there will be lots of yelling, screaming and badgering at my house tonight. lol

Saturday, Sunday, Monday we will be having my father in law over. We'll make steaks, soup, etc all the things he loves but doesn't make for himself. We'll talk about how I married my husband just so I could be close to him and how my new hair color looks great, how great my kids are, we'll talk about when Doug (hubby) was a kid. I love this man he's the greatest!!!!

That would be fun to invite everyone from the forum. But you know what....nobody would show up because all of my add/adhder friends would forget that we had made plans for dinner plus I will have gone shopping or somewhere because I too would have forgetten that I had invited everyone over. :)

Seriously, I would more than likely invite my family over. (They are adhd and more fun than his side.) :)

I would probably suggest that we barbeque chicken, have corn on the cob, baked potatoes, salad, garlic bread and maybe some fruit cocktail jello. Yum. The perfect summertime meal.

The kids would be in the pool or on the trampoline. My husband would be showing off his old car and Harleys in the garage. I would be "lounging" and jabbering about anything and everything under the sun.

After we eat, we would problably play our usual game of basketball (horse) and eventually wind it down and everybody will go home. (They all live relatively close so we see each other alot.)

Just an update.

My last post here, I said how I'd like to REALLY have my family over for dinner.

Well, I did, or we did. I went to my parents house last night and everyone I said was going to be there, was there. It was almost exactly as I thought it would be.

We all drank wine. My dad complimented me on my choice of wine. Penfolds Shiraz. Try it if you like Shiraz, it's my new favorite :) My brother seemed to like it. Dad made him "hang out" for a bit after dinner as he was a little tipsy. Maybe I made sure his glass was a little too full.

We ate homemade sun dried tomato red sauce over angel hair pasta, shrimp scampi, mushrooms sauteed in red wine, artichoke hearts, sauteed zuchinni and peppers, with lots of fun appetizers on the side.

I took pictures while we were eating. Mom talked about her students, Dad told us about Italy and showed us the pictures he had taken. Beautiful by the way. My newest goal is to visit someday. My brother and I joked and laughed the whole time.

I love dinners with my family. Everyone brings a different part of the meal. Eat together, drink together, laugh together.

My dinner last night was exactly what I needed and inspiration for the idea came from this thread. Thank you Gourmet.

oh Tangerine! Thank you that made my day...your family seems a lot like my family....tipsy brother, warm and fuzzy dad showing photos from trip to Italy.

If you ever go the Italy, I wish you would let me stow away, because it's on my list of destinations too. Wouldn't that be fun!?

You should check out the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" . It is worth watching for nothing other than to see the beautiful Tuscan landscape and you can almost smell the Italian cooking. The characters are very animated and it has a happy ending!

My standard response to such a question used to be:
"I want Bo Derik with a PhD"... that is, I wanted brains and beauty. After datimg my share of Christie Brinkley clones I ended up swearing off on women with dreadlocks or poofy blonde hair.... After all that fuss, I think I'd just prefer someone with a substantial personality who has some ethics and knows what she is all about...

I have found that combination to be VERY short in supply, with or without drop-dead georgous looks.
