View Full Version : Wellbutrin and aggitation

Hi, I was on Strattera for quite a while to help with my Inattentive ADD, I got all the way up to 120mg of the Strattera (which caused anxiety) then took myself off of it because it just really didn't do much. And that was verified once I was off of it and realized that there really wasn't much of a difference. So I decided to try Wellbutrin XL next. I was on it for 2 days, on the second day, I was having uncharacteristic aggitation, and bit my husband's head off over nothing. This is very odd for me as I am not an aggitated person. So I have not taken it since. My question is has anyone experienced aggitation on Wellbutrin and did it go away?
I really am wanting the Wellbutrin to work, I am scared to death of taking any stimulants, and my doc is saying that is what we should try next. I really don't think I want to.

Any advice would be great.
Thanks!

It takes a few weeks for wellbutrin to build up in your system and take effect.

Right, I know it takes a few weeks, but I'm wondering if anyone has had the aggitation go away. Because I'm not going to make it to a few weeks if it doesn't.

Wellbutrin takes effect *immediately*. It takes a few days for it to reach maximum levels in your blood if you take it steadily. Psychologically it may take a while longer for you to adjust to it, or see significant changes.

For me, if I take too much , I become irritable, and angry.

I am on 150 mg/day welbutrin Xl. On some days I have increased my dosage to 300 mG or even 450 mg.

If I stay at 300 mg per day, in about 3 days I start becoming irritable and prone to anger.
If I reduce my dosage back to 150 mg per day, all is fine.

At 450 mG per day, I can't go for more than a day at that level.

I seem to be seeing lots of reports (on this forum) of higher dosages of wellbutrin causing anger.

The end result is that I now do not take more than 300 mg per day, and never for more thna two days. Your experience may be different.

This is odd. I've experienced more anger and aggitation once the wellbutrin wears off. I'm actually taking the generic form, Bupropion SR (sp?), 150 mgs. twice a day. I also take regualar Adderall 10mgs, twice a day. Originally, when the adderall wore off, the anger and irritation began, so the wellbutrin was added to help with the gaps between the adderall. The adderall only works 3-4 hrs and the wellbutrin works about 5-6 hrs. I feel more calm and relaxed with the wellbutrin. Could someone tell me Bupropion is the same as wellbutrin? Are the effects the same?

Agitation and irritability are extremely common with Wellbutrin. If they aren't causing you major problems (ie. screwing up job, relationships, or making you suicidal) than it's worth it to wait. Most times agitation is transient, and will abate as you adjust. This is also very common with Strattera and other noradrenergic medications.

Welbutrin takes effect within one hour. Take too much and it has the effect of a stimulant and can cause anger.

I presently take welbutrin XL. I can take 300 mg per day for several days before it causes problems. I can take 450 mg for one day before I turn into a grouch. I take 150 mg a day and things are fine.

Thanks Speedo, I guess it was jsut a misunderstanding on my part. I forgot what I read but it sounded like it was generic.
