When i was 6 I got meningitis. Needed to go to hospital to treat it. The following year I failed the 2nd grade. The teacher would tell my mom that i wouldn't do the work and there was no point in passing me. Since that day ive been having headache most of my life. Ive also felt like I can never focus and have symptoms like ADD. Losing my keys and wallet all the time. Looking at people straight in the face and still have trouble paying attention to what they're saying. Thinking about talking to my neurologist. Wanted to know if ADD can be a long term after effect of meningitis.

i don't know but brain injury does manifest like adhd. Definitely get it checked out.

There's not a ton of research, but there have been some studies or case reports suggesting that ADHD-like symptoms and learning disabilities may follow meningitis (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=adhd+meningitis) or encephalitis (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=adhd+encephalitis).

I want to say that ADHD-like symptoms were recorded after an outbreak of St. Louis encephalitis, but I couldn't quickly find a reliable source, so I'm not sure.

As Ginniebean suggested above, injury to the brain from a variety of sources (including infection or severe inflammation) could produce symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, as well as memory problems and other learning difficulties.
