Hi, all, I am new here. I was diagnosed in 2000 at 36 years old. I have been taking Ritalin/Methylphenidate since I was diagnosed, with a short break for several months when I had to switch to Adderall due to Ritalin shortages.

A CVS pharmacy manager or pharmacist advised me that they had gotten an email saying ALL these types of drugs were going to be harder to get because the FDA was going to impose stricter limits for manufacturers.

I wanted to spread the word, so people were both aware and could, if they chose, write to their Congressmen and Senators.

I am an ADULT, not a child who "needs to be protected from over-diagnosis". I am tired of being scared I can't get my meds and being "punished" for having ADD.

Hopefully some of you will feel the same way and we can take action now before we are all out of meds.

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up.

It looks like the DEA (not FDA) has reduced the production quota for methylphenidate from 96,750,000g in 2015 (https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/fed_regs/quotas/2015/fr0916.htm) to 84,375,000g in 2016 (https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/fed_regs/quotas/2016/fr1025.htm) to 73,000,000g in 2017 (https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2016-23988.pdf).

I don't know exactly how that will affect medication availability, as things like demand, which doses/formulations the manufacturers decide to make, etc., also affect availability.

Here's the FDA page on drug shortages (http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/DrugShortages/default.htm), which has a searchable database (http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/drugshortages/default.cfm).

I wouldn't worry about shortage at all.
Writing your congressmen will not do any good.

Quotas can be modified , new exemptions put in place etc.
I 'm pretty sure that lobbyist are already working hard to get adjustments so big pharmaceutical companies are not affected by sale quotas and are able to increase their sales on annual basses.

I do think it would help to wright to your congressman. And I hope you do.

My view is this:

In the USA ,if there is a private, for profit company and there are customers willing to buy their products , but you have laws that are restricting full sale potential, those private companies will find a way to achieve this.

That's the reason why CEO's are paid so good.
I'd let them worry about it. I'm 100% sure that big pharmac. companies knew about it months before it was even introduced to public. Thats the reason why lobbyist are allowed to negotiate on behalf of those companies with the us goverment.

Even congressmen know that when you reduce supply the price will go up.They certainly dont want that ,because it may cause some people to completely stop using it. So if lobbyist can't convince them , nothing will.

Does this include Adderall? I noticed the information on methylphenidate but is this also true for amphetamine ( generic adderall )? That time we had the last big shortage was really stressful and I have since feared another one,,, so I really hope this does not happen.

From 2015 to 2017: the amount of amphetamine listed "for conversion" is lower, but the amount listed "for sale" is higher. (I'm not sure what "for conversion" means here.)
