hi guys,
just got diagnosed about a couple of months ago and was hoping there was something even better out there I could try taking once I go back to college.
I have been on adderal xr 10mg and it's been great for me.
I was wondering particularly about concerta (since that was what my psychologist was on.)
my problem was a constant rethinking of thoughts that would obsess my mind, not to mention the inattentiveness, and foggy mind.
anyhow, if theres anything out there even better I would love to know, as well as side effects.
thank you.

Strattera has helped me in some ways, but not in important other ways. For instance, it has helped me focus amidst lots of distraction, but when someone pops into my office with a "quick question", I sometimes have trouble refocusing on them. It does nothing at the current lower dose (40/day) for my short term memory issues. i'll be increasing the dose slowly since the side effects are not good. See this thread for details. http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1230
bobjr508, as a matter of fact, after i up the dose of strattera for a bit, if it doesn't improve, I was thinking of switching to Adderall to see if that would work better for me with fewer/no side effects. You mention that it has been great for you. Can you give some examples or more detail? Thanks!

well, it has definetely improved my ability to think straight. I was just hoping that I would do better on concerta.
the side effects are a very different sleep pattern.
I wake up like a shot now. (very fast, and I'm WIDE AWAKE.)
shorter sleeping hours, deeper sleep. and a very supressed appetite. (but thats ok, I will spend less on food and lose some more weight.) also, I do not worry so much about my future because I am in the here and now.(as opposed to the past or future.)
it's been good for day to day life. I was wondering if there was something I could try for going back to school.
education for me has always been nothing but trouble and I'm afraid I can't really get any where without a degree or certification of some kind. so for school I was hoping for something industrial strength.

Well, you could ask your doc about trying Strattera or Wellbutrin. Either could be just what you're looking for. Wellbutrin's affect was very subtle for me, but it did give a general sense of calm and controlled energy simultaneously.
Strattera's positive affect is more obvious for me, but one of the lingering side-effects is poor sleep (not getting to sleep but staying asleep). I really drag when it's time get up now where I really didn't before taking Staterra. I'm glad to hear that you don't have that problem with Adderal.
