Both can be great, but in the end because (a little) of allergies and (a lot) of past experience and history, the nod goes to...

dogs.

I have neither. I wish I could.

Cheers,
Ian

I'd have to say dogs. :)

But I'm allergic to kitties so I've never had one as a pet.

As a kid my favorite pet was a box turtle. Actually it's a tortoise but will always be known as turtle here.

They got a bit boring around age 10. Obsessed with em prior

I love them all, too. Most especially the ones overlooked daily while being chosen to suffer for our pleasures. I don't own any pets but often fur baby sit for others who do.

I grew up with a pure Persian cat but always wanted a dog. The one we had a chance to get jumped on me and scared me when I was little, so that blew my chances.

Both offspring are allergic, so we never got one for them, either. I honestly don't feel confident in my abilities to care for one 24/7, nor afford the vet bills, food expense, fence or kennel expense, etc.

But luckily, each day I'm visited by a wide variety of feathered friends, deer, a stray solid black cat, squirrels, a bunch of wild turkeys, and an occasional bear. Where the wild things are is where I'm most comfortable. :)

Our dog is a bed hog. He gets in between me and my husband and wants petted.
At one time, I had 2 dogs and 1 cat, but that's the most we ever had.

And they all slept on the bed, and the biggest one was a German Shepherd lol. My pajamas were always covered in hair.

We just have a chihuahua now, and still there's hair on me.

Even though I like cats, my neighbor is ruining it for me. She has a bunch of cats that she feeds, like 15 of them, and they are always pooping in my flowers or going under my front porch and pooping and peeing.
Also they get on our vehicles and this sometimes scratches them, and more than once I've had them wander in the garage, carriage house, or basement when I've had a door open. I accidentally shut a kitten in the carriage house once last year, and it was in there for days and I had no idea. I felt bad. Also it peed on a dresser I was stripping paint off.
I don't think it's normal to have 15 cats in town. Her husband won't let her take them inside. I think she should keep one or two, and give the rest away.
I tried to trap the ones going under my porch because I was going to take them to my friends house out in the country, but she caught me.
I kind of get a kick out of the squirrels we have. They are always chattering at my dog lol

You really are over yonder!!

I could never have a child, but I wouldn't mind having a pet or two to take care of. I'm surprised I've managed to keep this spiky lil creature alive for over a year. It HAS been difficult, but as of late I've been doing a lot better.

But i would love to live in a place with so many cute wild friends... Colorado is my dream
