My Dr. has me taking 2 -20mg Adderall RX in the morning. (around 9am) and I take .25 mg of Alprazolam, 3 times per day to help with anxiety. He said to try this as it will help with my need for things to be perfect.?.?

Does anyone else take Alprazolam and if so does it do anything for them?

I am forty years old and ADD/Bi-Polar.....and my doc gives me Ativan (I think might be the same as Aproazolam stuff, or very close in the family of it).

It takes the "edge" if any, along with side effects off of the Adderall XR. However, the XR has way less side effects than the generic tablets.

Too bad it is soooo expensive.....

If you don't like biting your nails alot, then take the Alprazolam without fail and you will be a happy camper with nice nails.... :p

take the Alprazolam without fail and you will be a happy camper until you try to stop taking a benzo then you will find yourself in hell from the withdrawals .... benzos are to be used for a couple of weeks after that you are running a real risk of addiction. :soapbox:

Zanax yes very good stuff for anxiety. Have taken it and felt fine.

as an aside: My dog Rodger Looney (:rolleyes: what can I say) who suffers from separation anxiety---he gets really upset when i leave him for a couple of minutes( he will eat the floor or pee on my moving boxes but never bites his claws) anyway, I just give him, as prescribed by my vet, .5mg. and leave the radio on(he prefers talk radio---somewhat liberal slant :faint: ) Supposedly this should stop his barking, yet the neighbors :eyebrow: report that it does not work!

Thank you for the info...I posted because I did not like how I felt. It did happen to me, I wokeup one morning and thought that I was going to die from difficulty brething and feeling as though I had a terrible hangover.

I stopped taking it that day and flushed the rest.

Even though the last post was 3 months ago I'd like to add my 2 cents...

At one point last year I was prescribed Adderall XR 40mg and Wellbutrin XL 450mg, and I was experiencing heart-racing and anxiety gag reflexes, and so was prescribed Alprazolam to take as needed. Guess what? It was all due to too-high doses of the other two - when those were decreased I no longer needed the Alprazolam. Too-high doses can be just as ineffective as too-low doses, only with added side effects.

Until I slowed and then stopped taking Adderall XR I hadn't realized that it had given me somewhat of a 'hard edge' - irritable when things didn't meet my expectations, which sounds a lot like 'the need for things to be perfect'.

This is a very interesting method of dealing with anxiety...alprazolam is a benzodiazepine class tranquilizer/CNS depressant, and amphetamine is a psychomotor stimulant...as my pdoc would say, this is "like stepping on the gas with the e-brake on." If the anxiety existed before you took the Adderall, it might help, but Adderall can actually cause anxiety...and in fact it's not uncommon. Taking the Xanax and the Adderall together is just an odd practice. It's not gonna kill you, but it's an odd thing to do.

My doc said the same thing. He said that using an Upper (stimulant) with a downer(valium) is not a common practice and he doesn't want to prescribe me the same. But Valium is the only drug that seems to help with my anxiety. And Dexdrine seems to be the only drug that helps keep me active. Also, please refer to my other post "A stimuland and Valium. I take Adderall and Xanax togther have for years and have no problems. I do not take the Xanax all the time but when I need to I can take it while still on my Adderall they "gel"

i take 1mg of xanax qd as needed for panic attacks plus klonopin along with my adderall, i dont see any problem with it as long as you dont abuse it and us it as directed. .25 of xanax is such a low dose, you should be ok, in my opinion, but i am not a doctor.
