View Full Version : shoes......glass slippers or pink bunny fur?
Gourmet 06-03-05, 04:37 PM I wrote a Cinderella comparison once for a college paper.
I have a couple of things to say.
First, fairy godmothers...
The fairy godmother was not always a person.
Fairy godmothers ranged from giant fish to goblins, falcons, third assistant cooks and cows……………………………………?
Then there is the thing they used to say about Cinderella.
To me it is so confusing. You would think that a PRINCE would notice a tiara, a necklace or bracelet - - something other than a shoe.
There are anklets, strapless sandals, golden slippers, stilettos, knee-high boots, etc.
Here is a tiny bit of French History.
It was always a glass sipper in the "true" Cinderella story,
correct?
Well guess what? That is untrue.
Somebody was careless when they mistranslated the fairy tale.
They translated the slipper into "verre", which means glass.
But it was originally "vair", which means…..ummmmmmmmmmmm….. FUR !
Cinderella originally wore pink bunny fur slippers ! Which I think would be much more comfortable.
But they may have attracted more fleas?
Are you like me? Do most women love shoes? Do you have a shoe selection to die for? Is your closet cluttered with shoes?
If so, what are your favorite shoes?
Some of mine……snake skin boots…."glass slippers"……." Pink bunny fur slippers"…….Nike running shoes ……..painting shoes ………green garden clogs……..

crime_scene 06-03-05, 04:56 PM shooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooes LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE !!!!!!!!!!!
hmmm. I have too too many shoes.:o  :faint:
I like my high wedgie black sandals, gold slide on high heeled sandals, silver thong flat sandals, plum stilletto booties, but my faves of all time are a pair of stuart Weitzman pointed tuxedo pumps with black satin stiletto heels, and black fine mesh uppers with silver sparkle alternating pinstripes and a black satin bow on the toe.
think I have about 45 pairs of shoes/boots not including stupid stuff like snow/rain shoes boots.
um this is probably very excessive.;)
Gourmet 06-03-05, 05:25 PM Can I come snoop in your closet? They sound magnificent!
I have to dress up a lot to attend artsy fartsy functions and you've gotta have the shoes.
One note about the stupid stuff shoes! When you go on a week long trip to a secluded area in the mountains, don't wear heels! It snowed and I didn't own a pair of hiking boots! I had the rubber fur lined boots, but they won't get you up the mountain!
On my honeymoon I wore the cutest pair of white strappy heels with my going away dress. When we got to the hotel I realized those were the only shoes I had. They
looked pretty cool with my navy cords. :D I wore them on the way to the shoe store!
crime_scene 06-03-05, 06:34 PM My regret is i've never been married, cuz I so wanted to wear some beautiful cream coloured beaded and lace mules....
but of course I realize that would be a poor reason to do that deed!
Mystic_Oracle 06-04-05, 01:19 AM I have so many shoes, it should be a crime...
Gourmet 06-04-05, 01:43 AM They say that if you have four pair of shoes per four seasons, you are a shoeoholic.
Some how that doesn't seem like it could be. I would call that a shoe "problem". OR maybe I just had "one too many pairs" of shoes.......OR "What's the matter, Ocifer, I only had a couple of shoes..." :D
Speaking of CRIMES.....I was almost incarcerated when I was 5 for singing
"these boots are made for walking,
and that's just what they'll do.....
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you....."
while wearing my white go go boots and dancing on my brother.
It didn't seem to bother him a bit. :faint:
That's when the danger potential of the Cinderella shoes was recognized and my parents replaced them with my FIRST pair of pink bunny fur slippers.
stori813 06-04-05, 06:08 AM Slipperoholic here.
I hate the thought of having to take my slippers off just to wear shoes.
I love my furry black slippers.
The best thing about slippers is you can wear really tacky ones.
And it doesn't matter cause they are slippers.
If I can get away with leaving my slippers on when leaving the house I will.
Like driving to the bank window.
I'm not getting out of the car why put shoes on.
I love my slippers.
phatkat 06-04-05, 02:55 PM I'm addicted to sandals. I only have a couple of pairs of non-sandal shoes - tennis shoes, workout shoes, a pair of brown "normal" shoes, tan boots, black boots with little heels, and black knee-high boots.
Then I have about 20 pairs of flip-flops and sandals. I LOVE them. As soon as it gets warm enough (i.e. no snow on the ground), I start wearing them, and I'll wear sandals until November or so when it snows again.
Yes, I live in the Northeast and I have a sandal fetish - I think I need help!!
Gourmet 06-04-05, 03:37 PM Shoes with bows,
pointy toes,
open backs,
thin straps.
Satin, silk, and leather. Who doesn't love a shoe?
Phatkat, do you wear anklets and rings
and paint your nails red?
EYEFORGOT 06-04-05, 08:13 PM Personally I like green or blue toe nail polish w/ my sandals.
No shoe fetish. I wear the same shoes all the time with everything. I have a small collection (I think 3 pairs) of dress black shoes. I never wear them. They were for the rare special occasion. They sit on the floor of my closet with nothing to do, no place to go.
When it comes to shoes, I'm cheap and practical.
Does your relationship to shoes say anything about your personality? If it does I'm a little defensive right now.
crime_scene 06-04-05, 11:26 PM I think if you like shoes it means that you are the type of person who..er...likes shoes.
crime_scene 06-04-05, 11:27 PM I think if you like shoes it means that you are the type of person who..er...likes shoes.:p :p :p :p
phatkat 06-05-05, 12:35 PM My toenails are deep red at the moment. The color's called vixen and I liked the name. :)
I love toe rings but I always seem to lose them so fast. No anklets, but I do have a tattoo that wraps all the way around my left ankle if that counts. :)
Gourmet 06-05-05, 02:35 PM "When it comes to shoes, I'm cheap and practical.

No silly ! In your defense, blue and green polish is anything but practical! hee hee. You are worth gold, not excluding your piggies. :)
Some ladies like rings and wear them on every fnger all at the same time!
At least the other shoes stay in the closet where they belong....or under the bed and in the den and the kitchen. If you have a closet you should put your shoes away.
That sounded kinda ADD :D

dfac001 06-05-05, 03:27 PM haha....i haven't count my shoes in a while....but i would guess i have 40 pairs of shoes now
and some of them r still in the boxes...definitely it's a crime...
i thought of doing a little project...just by wearing a differnt pair of shoes everyday...at least i can do that for a month...
also i'm a bag person...i have so many different handbags...
Gourmet 06-05-05, 04:32 PM Want to know what I do with the OLd shoes?
I teach art and we have a shoe class!
We recycle, paint and design shoes - heels, sneakers, doesn't matter - and they are fantastic! Feathers, faces, jewels, arms, legs, wings......you name it ........and the most whimsical colors and patterns you can imagine!

I have six pairs of shoes. Two pairs to wear in daily life, one pair of sandals, a pair of gardenworking shoes and two sets of slippers, because i lost the first set and now found them again.
I am one of the rare females who is hardly interested in any kind of fashion, including shoes.
Also, i dont have a lot of money to spend on unnecessary things, i tend to get VERRRY irritated when i go shopping (all those other people are all in the way) so i avoid doint that anyway, and i am a vegan which means i wont buy leather or fur or any shoes with bits of animal in it.... which limits the choice.
Gourmet 06-10-05, 12:34 AM Shoes........trying to remember when this shoe thing started. I told you about the go go boots/dancing on my brother incident...
But the deprivation of not having matching shoes for my Barbies.
Maybe that is the psychological root to my "problem" ? Barbie shoes are tiny and fall off easily. And I had ADD and played with Barbies in the treehouse and the sandbox......which led to shoe deprivation. I tend to have attachment issues, so I've been told.
And my mother told me if I couldn't keep up with the tiny shoes then I didn't need to have them. :(
Could my material girl be getting the best of me??? :faint:
~gourmet~
My favorites are my black knee high, zip up, black leather boots, which go great with pants or skirts. And my two other 'cowboy' boots-one tan, and one snakeskin.

Asleep@thewheel 06-19-05, 02:05 PM I too, have too many shoes, but give me bare feet any day! I also have a collection of ankle bracelets- I would never let my feet go out totally naked! LOL!
Gourmet 06-20-05, 10:57 PM Shoes are clearly extensions and projections of the self. :D
They penetrate the earth, and they ground us.
Shoes can tell the world about your core, your identity—what you’re like as friend, parent, worker, and lover.
The shape you choose to ground yourself at the root and end of yourself sends a powerful message to others.
What are you saying with your shoes? What are others saying? Hmmmmmmm?
~Psychological profile of a Shoe~
*Pointy:
sadistic, sexy, available, penetrating, aggressive, independent, boundaries of self and other in tact, bad girl/boy.
*Round:
masochistic, sweet, sensual, martyr, selfless, no boundaries, becomes other, empathic, childlike, maternal, innocent, fairy-taleish, good girl/boy.
*Square:
alienated, cut off, rigid boundaries, strong, self-protected, afraid to lose self, withdrawn, afraid of commitment, unique, artistic, schizoid-like, rebellious, tough bad girl/boy.
*Oval:
stable, healthy, can change roles, not an extremist, flexible, somewhat conservative, can be the parent of your child and sexy to boot, normal, gets things done, not risky, unadventurous, not-too-good good girl/boy.
*****The pointy shoe, often a pump, has some contradictory features: the pointy shape is a phallic representation, especially in the way it gives length, signifying testosterone and sexiness. But pointy pumps are repressively tight, binding, and narrow, which serves to extend a submissive, hyper-feminine effect.
Now take a look at your feet before you walk out the door! :D

windowlicker 06-21-05, 10:40 AM 3 favourite pairs of shoes:
*my adidas which i wear till they are worn out and then go buy another pair. i bought pumas this year but i don't wear them nearly as much, the adidas are just so comfy
*a pair of flip flops
*my ugg boots. i don't care if these things turn into a fashion faux-pas. they are so comfortable and perfect for the winter. you can pare them with a short skirt and still look good. i hate hate hate heels.
fasttalkingmom 06-21-05, 05:34 PM B/C (before children)I use to many pairs of shoes.
Now my fav.pair of shoes are my sneakers and in the summer my flip flops
whiteraven 07-03-05, 09:59 PM My winter footwear of choice is Blundstone boots. Thank-you Australia! I love my Blunnies. They keep the west coast water out, and have lasted almost five years looking as good as new. And I am hard on shoes. They don't restrict my feet either (which I hate).
And I also wear sandals and flipflops as much and as long as possible. So, Birkies are it! But I have started finding cute and cheap (but must be comfortable) flipflops are a must. Beads and sequins and ribbons, but not frilly or flouncy. I go for the natural look, so no nail colour; but silver toe rings on both feet and ankle bangles, bracelets and jingles are in. Sensible velcro sandals are good for work, water wear or hiking.
I am blessed with little, yet widish feet; so I can wear boys sizes and pay almost half the adult price most of the time!
Yeah, I guess you could say I like shoes...
whiteraven 07-03-05, 10:06 PM Toe rings.
Anyone had strange reactions to foot jewelry? I have. Everything from curiousity to outright disapproval.
Who'da thought that the choice to decorate my feet would elicit strong responses? No one mentions finger rings at all. I should add that my toe rings are tasteful, plain silver with floral motifs, nothing exotic at all...
stori813 07-04-05, 12:34 AM Toe Rings are great! :)
Ankle bracelets I love to wear those.
When I was in Florida visiting I found something called "Beach Feet"
It goes on the toe up the foot and hooks around the ankle.
Very pretty piece of jewelry and something different.
minn306 07-05-05, 08:42 AM Shoes..........now that is a funny one for me. I have several pairs of shoes in my closet, always look for new shoes when I go to the store.............but yet I either go bare foot or wear the same flip flops all the time!!
minn306 07-05-05, 08:43 AM Toe Rings are great! :)

I have an anklet bracelet that I love to wear & want to look at different toe rings to see if any of them "catch my eye"
Gourmet 07-05-05, 07:23 PM Stori :D
Oh my goodness.......I have a "beach feet" wrap for my hand and my ankle!
Mine have shells on them......pukka shells, and I love them! Way, way cool, stori...from Pawley's Island.
I love shell jewelry..
all the better to play footsie with while sitting on the sideline watching volley ball, right girlie girl? :)

stori813 07-07-05, 05:33 AM I'm starting to think the woman on this forum have the prettiest footwear around:)
Gourmet I can't believe someone else knows what Beach Feet are lol
luvmi3kids 07-07-05, 10:46 AM Yeah, like every girl I like shoes and purses, but because of the stresses of everyday family life, and the money involved in purchasing shoes and purses, and because of the lack of strorage space in my tiny house (My bedroom closet has a crate in the bottom filled with Star Wars figures, ships, and other sundry memorabilia from the 1970's that my husband cannot part with!) I don't have that much. :( I have two pairs of sandals, a pair of Nikes, three of pairs of pumps, and a couple of pairs of those Wal-Mart $5 canvas shoes that just slip on. :)
MafiaKiddo 07-10-05, 08:46 PM I avoid shoes whenever possible. My feet need to be free and they are not happy unless they are naked. When I have to have me feet covered I wear sneakers I have tons of sneakers but not any actual shoes. The last time I actually wore a shoe was in 1996 it had a slight heal which of course I could not walk in and I wound up spraining my ankle. LOL needless to say I haven't worn shoes since and don't plan on starting any time soon.
As weird as it is I have great balance when I'm barefoot or have comfy sneaks on but put a shoe or sandle on me and I won't make it out the door without falling.
Does anyone else have problems with flip flops or clogs. I can't keep the on my feet. I am able to take a few steps fine the wind up kicking them off or falling out of them. LOL think I have a shoe disorder

When I read this it reminded me of playing Barbies. I would use my mothers heels as boats and cars for the dolls to zoom around in. So maybe your husband's star war figures are flying around in shoe shaped space ships while you are sleeping....
mafia kiddo :)
I like to wear open backed shoes and usually prefer them.
I get a new pair of leather clogs every fall and that is what I wear with jeans.
When you wear them the muscles in your feet get exercise and then you are able to keep them on better......but so does going bare foot I think..... Blows that theory. :D
