Well, I have Inattentive Type ADD, have tried Strattera without success, tried Wellbutrin for two days before I nearly bit my husbands head off due to excessive irritability, so haven't tried it again. I am dreadfully apprehensive about trying stimulants due to dependency, but I need this ADD helped. It is really getting in the way of my everyday life....including my relationship with my husband.
I guess I feel pretty hopeless and was looking for a little direction, because I feel lost as to what to try next. My doc wants to try stimulants next, but I'm just not too sure about that.

What data are you using to justify your stimulant dependency fears?

Your dependency fears - (you don't have to answer the following question) are they due your having dependency/addiction issues or because you're concerned you will become dependent on/addicted to the stimulant?

If it's because you already have dependency issues - then I'd say going on a stimulant valid concern. If I had dependency issues, I'd be concerned about stimulants. I really can't say much on this topic, because I have no experience with this. You could jump over to the ADDiction and substance abuse section.

If your dependency fear is that you're afraid you'll become dependent on a stimulant, there are things you can do monitor yourself, such as only taking the dose(s) your doc prescribed, taking drug holidays, monitoring how you are feel after taking the stimulant (you don't want to feel euphoric)

I've been on ADDerall IR for over 6 years without a problem and only about 6 months ago- -had my dosage upped by 10mg. I take plenty of drug holidays. The drug holidays reassure me that the ADDerall is working and that it definitely improves my functioning in life.

Have you talked to your dr about the wellbutrin side effects? My dr told me many of them go away, not fun in the meantime but I think it's only barely in your system on day 2. I'm not sure how long it takes to build up in your system, but they say you might not get the full effect for a month.


what dosage are you taking? what form (XL or SR)? my dr had me start on a low dose and work up to 300mg over 3 weeks.

When I took well buteran It made me feel like crawling out from under nieth my skin, I absolutly went bizzurk,the adderal 15mg's 2x a day I take have slowed my minf way way down but I'm now really nervous and boarderline apranoid around people for no reason, they say thats a side effect of aderall, hope it goes away soon cause I don't like feeling like this, I've only been on it for 3 days now, and its time for my afternoon doseDr. told me to take between 5-6 hrs to maintain peek effect, here comes the nervouseness.

Maybe you were just pmsing when you nearly bite your husband's head off. Though wellbutrin took a few weeks to get into your system and work. I had add and take adderall. Talk to your doc.
