Over asked question but,
What are the common drug treatments for ADD/ADHD in Adults?
When I was a kid they tried to use Ritalin (with disaterous results, caused Rage and alot of other problems).
What do they use now?
Side Affects?

I believe the whole range of medication used for kids is also used
for adults. I know my Dr. is going through the list with me.
I started on Adderall with great results. I had to discontinue
due to urinary problems after a month or so. Then I tried Ritalin
but the impact was not so drastic. I tried concerta but did not
take well to the extended release issues. Provigl was next which
seemed to help with the constant tiredness but did nothing much
for the add symptoms. Dexedrine was tried but the urinary issues
came back stronger than ever...but the results were amazing!
I am also taking 30mg Cymbalta at bedtime which seems to
help somewhat with my fibro symptoms. As soon as I can get
some Lyrica I plan on trying that at bed for the benefits that
it has on slow wave sleep cycles.
My youngest son had some bad reactions to the 5mg adderall xr
that he was first prescribed. It seems that it wore off at a time
when he was under stress, the bus ride home. He was moody and
quite grumpy coming home. Upping it to 10mg xr in the morning and 5mg
regular as needed for homework has been working out well. Many
people from what I have read can get aggressive and take fits of
rage with stimulants. Wellbutrin and Strattera may be just the thing
to try in some of those instances.
There is another section on this board dedicated to all of the common meds.
It may be worth the time to browse through there.
I believe I am fortunate to have a Dr. willing to try different meds.
Some may not be so accomodating.
Good luck with your pursuit for something that helps.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Have you seen the section here "Treatment/Medications"? Lots of info about the different options there.

The common drug treatments for ADHD in adults are exactly the same as those used for children: Ritalin and its extended released forms, Adderall, Dexedrine, Strattera, Wellbutrin, and a few others. Definitely take a look in the medication section for more info.
I just told my Doctor this morning about the ADD thingy and he said I'm not the attention seeking type. Duh, where did he get his degree, I wonder. Then I mentioned about Ritalin and Adderell, he said I shouldn't take those since its a life long medication. You people should be glad you not from where I live.
