I am 20 years old and have been taking Methylphenidate IR for about 6 months now. I have severe restlessness and can't sit still almost all the time. If I sit still I have absolutely no cognitive ability and can't concentrate at all or think clearly. Methylphenidate helps me concentrate at 20 and 30 mg doses however my physical restlessness is still severe unless I take 40 - 50 mg or more which causes unpleasant side effects.

Does anyone here have advice or experience with any medications that are effective for treating physical restlessness (constant desire to move). I am dysfunctional in social situations because I force myself to suppress the physical hyperactivity which makes the experience almost unbearable. I don't have access to mixed amphetamine salts or Methamphetamine Hydrochloride (desoxyn) where I live however I may end up trying Dexamphetamine following my next review with specialist.

Does anyone have experience with Dexmamphatamine? What did it do for your restlessness compared with Ritalin?

I take both adderall and dexedrine. I never did well on Ritalin. I also have a lot of issues with fidgeting and moving. I would say that its better with meds in the sense that if I am sitting in say, a play I am not disturbing the whole row by shifting and moving my legs but when I am home, I still notice some leg tapping. I just dont get up and down as much at home and am able to sit and do something for a sustained amount of time. Like right now as I type my leg is swinging but I am able to sit here and answer stuff on the forums without getting up and down remembering something I wanted to do only to walk into another room and start something completely different. So it doesnt solve my issue cause I guess I am more severe but it sure as hell makes it easier to bare.

It is worth trying, especially in the situation you've described where the other drug has unacceptable side effects when the useful dosage is reached.

I second above. Try Dex it's worth a try. It also has to be dialled in just right. To me it worked heaps better than the other. Problem is there's just the immediate release.
