View Full Version : Parents of Children with IEPs Johna 06-14-05, 09:16 PM How do you know as a parent if your child's general education teacher is following the child's IEP modifications? Thanks for the information. Nucking_Futs 06-14-05, 10:40 PM I go to every single IEP meeting. I take notes at every single meeting. I do my own homework. I request weekly updates and if I don't get it on Friday I'm on the phone Monday. I question my kids about their day, about recess, about lunch and about any time spent with the resource teacher. If I suspect deviation from the plan, I bring it up at the next meeting. Only once have I been given the run around since I've learned to play a more active role in my children's school affairs and I got quite ugly with my son's teacher and the principal. The board stood up for Koda and his IEP program re-instated the way it was set up at the beginning of the year. Anyone dealing with my children has my phone, cell phone, email address should they have a concern or wish to speak to me I make myself accessible to them 24/7. I have even gotten a call from the school cook to ensure that Koda was allowed to have chocolate on Fridays if he had a good week at 8:30 at night. I think the most valuable thing I've learned is to be there, be aware, and be approachable. Is that what you were looking for? Johna 06-15-05, 08:06 PM Yes, thank you for your input. I am curious if a general or special education teachers has to show when they meet those students modifications. Got another one for you...as a parent is it possible for an IEP student in a special education classroom to receive an A on a report grade? One of my student received a B in my class but the other classes taught in general education d's. Now I have to explain to the principal how that happened. HELP! Nucking_Futs 06-16-05, 09:06 AM WTF did I just do?!!! lol wrote out a reply next thing I know its gone. Sheesh now I need to start over. Koda is advanced so acheiving b's and a's are nothing for him. Now Lexi scraped thru the school year with low b's and high b's and had to fight tooth and nail for every single grade. She would read everynight, practice her maths skills every night, etc, etc. Do you know what would have happened to her morale if she was only graded on what she was able to acheive with the classroom? I know, she would have given up and not wanted to fight so hard. I almost think your principal wants to keep these kids behind. And another thing to consider maybe your just a better teacher and make the information fun, informative and easily digested.
