This is not so much a problem with the medication itself, more like a problem with remembering whether or not I took it. I'll take it every morning at 7 am, and if I don't have to be up early, I'll go back to sleep. Lately however I've been having problems where I'll wake up later, at like 11 in the morning, and I won't be able to remember if I took it or not. Sometimes I can *feel* it in my system (like if I took it, I'll be able to feel it), but sometimes not. So today I've decided to keep a little notepad and a pen on my night table, where I will WRITE down that I took it. That way, I'll wake up later and see it written down. Does anyone else have this kind of problem?

My retardedness has to do more with taking a dose too late, sometimes, because I underestimate, how much I can focus...and I end up hyperfocusing till 3am...
You should get yourself one of those 'daily pill' contraptions, from the drugstore, and just put the pills necessary for that day, in it. That way you'll see, if you did take the doseage, or not, each day, until you get used to being on it, and remembering to take it.
Don't forget to take the actual prescription bottle, still, with that pill reminder box, if you are taking the meds anywhere other than your home, because some state statutes mandate keeping prescription drugs in their container w/the label on it.
Maybe that idea will work for you.

I second the advise to get a 'daily pill' box. My problem was I would remember that I had to take the medicine but than not remember if I actually took it or just remembered that I was suppose to take it. Duh! I got one of those pill boxes and it has helped alot!

That's a good idea. Actually, I think my mom has one of those.

I've experienced the same thing, not remembering if I took my medication (which really only started to happen only recently, perhaps because before now I'd been taking the meds at fairly regular intervals in a set routine) the first time it happened I actually totally forgot that I had taken them and took another dose about an hour later - that wasn't particularly fun.
As I said before, it hasn't happened often, but happened again today - so I decided to just wait another hour or so to see if I 'feel' the drugs working before taking a dose.
Kinda disturbing finding myself TOTALLY forgetting things that I have done - I mean, most of the time I can remember if my memory is jogged or reminded by someone or something, but sometimes lately there are just total blanks.
Anyone else get this?

ps. Oh, yeah - one of those pillboxes is something I've decided is a must have :)

Prior to the diagnosis of ADHD, I was already having to remember to take a pill daily.

I tried the pill boxes, they don't work for me on a long-term basis. They do work when I travel.

I decided to peg taking my meds to something I do everyday in the am. That turned out to be putting on makeup. So, the moment I reach for my blush, I take my pills first. This way I can say, if I have blush on, I took my meds. On the weekends, sometimes I don't put on makeup til late morning, so maybe my timing is off a bit but the system works.

After getting the RX for Methlyin and saw that I had to take it not only in the am but also the pm, my head swam with the thought of how am I going to work this one. I found a solution today. I set my cell phone to ring an alarm for the pm pill. So far that works. I couldn't do too many alarms or I'd lose track of what I was suppsed to remember.

Good luck, Ann

I have a plastic pill bottle. Every morning I put all of my daily meds in that bottle.

My schedule is simple. I take meds in the AM , at lunch, and in the evening.
All I have to do is to look at the pill bottle to see if I remembered to take my meds or not.

Thanks for the advice guys. The notepad method seems to be working so far, so I'm going to stick with that.

Oh, and there may have been some confusion. I don't have problems remembering TO take my meds; rather, I'll take one pill at 7 am, go back to sleep, wake up again at 10 am and not remember if I took the pill at 7 am or not.

I have several other meds that I have to take every 4-6 hrs, for health problems. I use the Daily Pill Containers...they are just a few $ & they also help me to know Ahead of time when its time for a refill. The Pill Container I use during the day has 2 different "alarm settings", it cost app $5.00...I've had several over the past few yrs...1 used a AAA Battery & the others use the little round batteries that are a few dollars at any drug store. But sometimes, when I go back to sleep, I forget to push the button for the alarms so as a "back up" the evening or night before I take my 1st dose of meds & put them in my Daily Container. That way if I take them then go back to sleep & forget to set the alarms all I have to do is check & knowing I put then in there the night before, if they're not there...it means I took them. They also have "Locking Daily Pill Containers" if you have little ones around or if you drop things alot like I do (the individual compartments don't open when its dropped) Nova is right about taking your Rx Bottles with you. If you are not traveling, it really depends on where you live & if the meds are a "Controlled Substance."

This is a great suggestion!

Many pharmacies generate a "copy" of the original perscription directions. At my pharmacy that extra set of directions appeared at the bottom of the patient information sheet I get.

I take only one medication so carrying bottles would not be a problem. In the past however I have had several perscriptions, when I had children I had to carry their medications also. Okay this could add up to an entire purse full of pills bottles and daily dose containers (a container for each of us). To cut down on the amount of space these nomatic medications required I used the dosage boxes for our medications and cut the copy of the doctors order off the bottom of the information sheet and taped these to the daily pill box. I used this method for daily home town activities only. If we went out of town of coarse I took medications bottles with the medications we would need for that trip plus an extra day. I mean car load of ADDers being a day late arriving home NOT unheard of!!!!

I NEVER carry my entire months supply of Adderall around I have had my prescription stolen out of my purse before!!!!!!

You guys have this problem, too? I had to get oneors of those little pill dispensors at Walgreens that I load on Sundays with every day of the week's pills. I also have asthma and I can't ever remember i, in a crises, I took one puff or the required two puffs.
